Drea de Matteo on We Might be Drunk

I'm on my second rewatch of the show when I saw her name on WMBD. I excitedly listened to the episode but the experience eventually turned into the first five letters of her name: Dread.

As a Sopranos fan, it was really interesting hearing about her experience. I just realized that she was quite isolated from the cast since most of her scenes were with Christofuh. It was also soooo funny when theh rewatched some of the clips, especially with the dead dog. She had amazing insights that I never heard from other cast members.

As a normal human being, I would have never thought that she would be THAT right wing. The hosts aren't pillars of the progressive movement themselves but goddamn she was woke this hollywood elite that. They just laughed around it, trying to make it jokey and thankfully she kinda got the vibe. She was even making disclaimers such as "I don't want to get your YouTube shut down" or something. Then they prompted her to talk about her streetwear line, a sort of a uniform or armor for the apocalypse or something as she described it. It was really cringey towards the end.

If you're a fan of the show (I mean why else would you be here), the episode is worth listening to. She has wonderful stories to tell about the show and it's a really different experience she had with the show that is worth hearing.

There's also "Real mob wives of New Jersey" or such that she is in. It's absolutely horrible

what kinda anecodte u found interesting

The fact that writers ran the show, not the director. They would sometimes give her notes or ask her if that's how she wanted to do a scene because the writers have this vision in their minds of how their written scenario will play on the show.

Also the fact that she was ready to go when she was killed in the show. She was always crying and nagging and being beat up so her end was something that she welcomed. She was ready to go.

I also listened to it, but had to turn it off at some point as Drea was annoying me. I liked it when she was talking about the show, less so when she brought up her politics and conspiracy theories.

The writer thing, and I think she made this point as well, is how it typically goes in TV, as opposed to film. The showrunner is usually a writer, the writers room make the key decisions, and directors come and go. Whereas with movies, the writers usually have much less say after they’ve sold the script, and the director ”runs the show”, so to speak.

Sometimes of course the showrunner or a writer will direct an episode of a series, or a movie director also wrote the script, but generally that’s how it goes.

Thankfully I was able to finish it to confirm that yeah there was no substantial content after their discussion of the show.

The effect of Fox News on the American public cannot be underestimated. There are otherwise decent respectable people who believe 2020 was stolen by a Satanic pedophile ring. I don't know if there's any real solution to it. Some people have successfully undergone deprogramming, but for that to work you have to actually want it. I knew Drea was an anti-vaxxer but yeah she's deep in the Trump rabbit hole

I think you could probably write a whole cringe comedy based on her life (she wasn't getting any acting work because she wasn't vaxxed so she made an OnlyFans, I wish I was joking)
