Old people rap/hip hop
discussion
I’m trying to ease my grandpa in rap and hip hop. What songs should I show him that aren’t too intense but would still be interesting. He listens to old classic rock and county and his favorite part of music is vocals.

Pete & Bas - Stepped Into The Building
Grandpa might like grandpas rapping.
I'd suggest Norman Pain too. Dude has some of the best character work in all of music at the moment
Not saying this is my jam, but start with Coolio - Gangsta's paradise. Everyone likes that shit.
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five The Message, The Sugar Hill Gang, Rapper’s Delight
I’m sure your grandad will enjoy these, I still love them!! 👩🎵📀🇨🇦
I’m like your grandpa - can’t stand rap, but I love Post Malone’s Circles.
Here’s a great post about lyrical masterpieces.
Personally, I’d recommend Tribe Called Quest because their music is fun, catchy, and encapsulates the vibrant positivity of 90s hip hop that’s missing from today’s music. Electric Relaxation is my fav song
Other recs:
Mos Def / Black Star
Tupac (Dear Momma is a song that has mass appeal)
Lauryn Hill - Doo Wop That Thing in particular, but her whole album (miseducation…) is phenomenal
The Message" - Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five
“It’s Tricky” or "It's Like That" - Run-DMC feat. Jason Nevins (they mixed rock & rap)
"Resurrection" - Common
“California Love" - 2Pac ft. Dr. Dre
If you're grandpa is white, start him off with Public Enemy's "Fear of a Black Planet".
