Are we getting both Onslaught and Dark Phoenix in the season finale?

Discussion

Jean got blasted by a mind controlled Cable and I feel like it would allude to her going Dark Phoenix, especially since they showed Dark Phoenix in the opening. Also with Onslaught, he’s a combination of both Magneto and Xavier’s psyche, and it seems like they’re alluding to him appearing too.

Why would we get dark phoenix? TAS already covered it.

Next Dimensions homage which also had Bastion

They literally showed Dark Phoenix in the X-Men 97 intro

I waited so long for the X-men to fight thunderbird in the original run

As a native growing up lol me too

I had only a hodge podge of comics and one was a reprint of giant size so I was always like “wait he’s a hero!”

...which is the first time Jean has the Phoenix Force. So it could just be referencing that Jean may get to use the Phoenix again, as she does in the comics all the time, not that she will become the Dark Phoenix again.

I’m pretty sure this is leading to Apocalypse.

u/IllustriousAnt485 avatar

Ya Apocalypse has unfinished business from TAS. They did him dirty and he needs the same image and integrity rework all the other characters have gotten. He would be awesome.

I actually think they should make a theatrical film for apocalypse. Do onslaught for season 2, then a movie with apocalypse, then season 3

Didn't they already do apocalypse?

u/RayDaMan1 avatar

… they already did Magneto, Sinister, the Shiar and Bastion apparently too.

u/Esqualatch1 avatar

Probably play out the Kang angle from Beyond Good & Evil^^

I really think they will wrap up onslaught in the finale. This show is excellent but has no regard for pacing. They swing for the fences. Wouldn't be surprised if jean wipes out onslaught in 30 minutes.

Why not just bring out Hulk unbound and Franklin Richards to cap out the show out of nowhere and with no prior explanation too?

We've gotten apocalypse during a few intro scenes. Seems too deliberate to be more than just a call back to Cable's past.. future... days of future past. Wait no they did that already.

u/obvusthrowawayobv avatar

Hell yeah it is, in the old series Deathbird chillin with Apocalypse. Hes out there fr

People are aware that Jean has been a host for the Phoenix without the Phoenix saga, right? The Phoenix saga is her first encounter with it, she’s had the Phoenix multiple times in the comics after that and is perfectly capable of controlling it. If she gets the Phoenix in the finale, it won’t be them doing the Phoenix saga again, especially since she’s already gone through that in this continuity

u/qwfparst avatar

Not only that, she had a whole era where she took the codename Phoenix and it's imagery without explicitly "using" the force. She freaked Scott out when she started wearing the costume again (or first time depending on how you look at it.)

It was basically a self-confidence "Let it Go" powerup.

Is was basically a whole "is she or isn't she" with her fandom during that era until the Morrison era made it very explicit that she was manifesting the Phoenix.

More replies

I hope they don't redo the phoenix saga...

u/Terribleirishluck avatar

Jean using the Phoenix force doesn't equal doing the dark Phoenix saga again. Comic Jean has been Phoenix multiple times since dark Phoenix

u/qwfparst avatar

Being "Phoenix" also doesn't mean she is even explicitly tapping into the Phoenix Force.

She took the codename Phoenix on as a mental powerup before she actually manifested the Phoenix for realsies (for the first time and not her "clone") during the Morrison era.

Right?!

Why not? Phoenix has always been the most interesting concept/plot about Jean’s character.

u/cobaltaureus avatar

The Phoenix Force coming back, isn’t the same as Jean being dark Phoenix again. It will be something new if it happens

So would it be White or Green Phoenix Jean?

u/cobaltaureus avatar

That’s the thing, maybe it won’t be either. Maybe it will be something new. Reading through comics from 2015-current era, the Phoenix and Jean have a very interesting relationship. I can’t wait to find out what happens!

Is it so wrong to want one X-Men adaptation that doesn't cover the Phoenix saga?  It happened in two movies, TAS, and probably more if I looked into it.

Phoenix Saga is overdone.

We're not getting phoenix.

Maybe the lowkey start of Onslaught for the next season.

My guess is avengers vs X-Men first. With wolvie out of commission for the time being seems perfect for capt to swoop in with his lofty ideals of morality.

AvX is like season 3 or 4. That’s a slow burn

Maybe so if bastion doesn't conclude by the end this season because of the greater alliance of villains.

I doubt we will get Avengers. Individual appearances and Easter eggs with Morph, absolutely but we are not going to see an Avengers team vs Xmen. I would bet they pull from Onslaught, Romulus, and House of M for season 2 since they dropped hints and appearances for those storylines in season 1

So far quick appearances that were without morph were: capt, Spidey, omega red, Dr doom, the samurai guy I forget his name.

With capt, I think fury and shield or on the table. With Spidey idk he's by himself but fingers crossed Deadpool. If omega red is there maybe colossus (from the motherland). Doom maybe fantastic 4 or something greater. Also there is no way down the line this isn't all coming to head with apocalypse.

But I guess what you're saying is plausible.

u/VaqueroSucio avatar

Silver Samurai.

Deadpool has one appearance (IIRC) in the AMS.

Cap has one appearance in season5 of the AMS with wolvie, but can't/too tired to look up.

Anywhos, everything is plausible after season1, being that season2 is already written for X97; considering the rumors of the the show writer being fired already.

Yeah I think the seasons 1-3 were written then renewed for 4 and somewhere somehow the writer was fired. I don't get it. Why fire the person responsible for such a good show.

Without Wolverine would xmen vs avengers even be fun?

Wolvie will heal up. But before the fight kicks into gear there would be a stand off where he's not there.

Then Onslaught would low key remove all obstacles in his way.

Then I guess it would shift from X-Men vs the rest to everyone vs onslaught. Or maybe legion? Idk

I hate cap’s lofty holier than you morals and force fed ethical bull poop. If A vs X happens, I will gleefully cheer the xmen and scream all the swear words and mire at cap.

I will die on the hill, cyclops was right, not a villain and cap was about as needed as Indiana Jones in Raiders, (hint not needed at all).

Ugh they always make Cap a dickhead when dealing with the X-Men

They should, cause in the X-Men universe it's like where are the supes when the world persecutes mutants.

More replies

But I will feel bad if Spidey stands against the X-Men

u/fabzo100 avatar

avengers is more diverse, they have falcon, shang chi, monica rambeau, and black panther in their rosters. xmen claim to be "minority" but the only PoC characters are storm and jubilee (and jubilee is extremely weak in the series, which make her a token character)

What are you talking about? This had nothing to do with cap being a self righteous prick to the Xmen.

Bishop and Forge as well so by your argument xmen have more . Please educate yourself. I'm all for inconclusive but when you are wrong it taints the message.

The finale has to be like an hour long. There's no way in hell I can see this story resolved in 22-25 minutes.

Onslaught will be born and destroyed in 25 minutes. Lol.

More replies

No. Onslaught yes

u/AceBean27 avatar

Onslaught obviously. I think Cable will fill in for Nate in the Onslaught saga, so the finale will see Sinister turn Cable on Bastion and we'll see how powerful he is. As for Phoenix, I suspect we'll just get a hint that the Phoenix is still lingering in Jean. Like she might just plain die and resurrect.

u/rtjl86 avatar

When Sinister threw the car back at Jean there was a brief flash of a few flames when she blocked it.

More replies

They did Dark Pheonix already.

u/Terribleirishluck avatar

That doesn't prevent Jean becoming Phoenix again just like comic Jean has

More replies

We are definitely getting Phoenix back, not dark Phoenix.

Onslaught feels like a season 2 storyline and def not this season.

u/lexxstrum avatar

They've referred to the Phoenix almost every episode, so it's either Chekov's gun or a red herring.

u/qwfparst avatar

I'm personally hoping it's more of the "imagery Phoenix" era rather her explicitly using the Phoenix Force because it allows her to to have a "power-up" be more of a mental one and doesn't make her all powerful. Just powerful enough on occasion that it forces people to wonder.

More replies

I certainly hope not, regarding Phoenix anything. It's always Scott & Jean....focus on the others!

While I think Phoenix may make an appearance given Jeans current circumstance. Onslaught is probably just going to be hinted at for an appearance next season.

No

u/Intelligent-Year-760 avatar

I think season 2 will be Onslaught and then they’ll play season 3 as AvX because you’ll have Cap and the Avengers telling the X-Men they hand over Xavier into the custody of the US govt and the X-Men refuse) basically what happened with OZT after Onslaught since the Avengers were “dead”). It would be a great moral quandary for the X-Men who would mostly understand after having spent season 2 facing Xavier’s consequences that their mentor is indeed too dangerous to be allowed to do whatever he wants, but unwilling to just hand him over to the Avengers. Great drama!

No, I’m going to say unlikely.

I hope it’s Apocalypse but also hope and figure it’ll be Onslaught.

u/efishertoochocolate avatar

Yeah with a earth without magnetic field and magneto on his warpath the last thing the X-men need is the dark phoenix

u/ReflectionItchy2701 avatar

We won't get the Dark Phoenix before Jean is the Phoenix again. And to be honest I don't think we will see the Dark Phoenix in X-Men 97. They already did the Dark Phoenix saga in X-Men TAS and it was amazing. Onslaught is gonna be a slow burn and probably something that will happen in season 3 or at best at the end of season 2. I think that Jean is gonna reach to Cable on the astral plan with perhaps Madelyne's help. There's always the possibility of time travelling with Cable and Bishop.

Why do so many people forget onslaught was a slow burn and didn't appear instantly he wasn't a thing for 25 issues at least it was xavier slowly sending them on darker missions till onslaught manifested
