LUS Extends Support to Tallahassee Following Devastating Storms

Submitted by Lafayette Consolidated Goverment

LAFAYETTE, LA (May 11, 2024) – In the wake of recent devastating storms that swept through Tallahassee, Florida, Lafayette Utilities System (LUS) has taken swift action to extend a helping hand to the affected communities. As part of a national response coordinated through mutual aid partnerships within the American Public Power Association (APPA), LUS has deployed a team of dedicated professionals to assist with recovery efforts in Tallahassee.

Recognizing the urgent need for assistance, LUS has mobilized 15 experienced employees along with 11 vehicles and other essential equipment for up to two weeks to provide crucial support to Tallahassee. These skilled individuals are equipped with the expertise and resources necessary to aid in the restoration of essential services and infrastructure in the aftermath of the storms.

“We stand with the communities facing the aftermath of these devastating storms,” said Jeff Stewart, Director of LUS. “LUS is committed to offering our support to help Tallahassee recover and rebuild, just as they have helped us in the past.”

The collaboration between LUS and Tallahassee underscores the spirit of cooperation and mutual assistance that defines the public power community. Through the APPA’s mutual aid network, utilities nationwide come together in crisis to provide vital assistance and resources to communities in need.
