Hot on the heels of the extremely positive reactions to his soon-to-be-released serial killer thriller Longlegs, director Oz Perkins has already started casting his next project, a supernatural thriller by the name of Keeper, which will star the She-Hulk herself, Tatiana Maslany, and Possessor‘s Rossif Sutherland.
The news comes to us from Deadline Hollywood, who broke the story last night. Says Deadline:
“Neon has acquired rights to Osgood Perkins’ (Longlegs) next genre movie Keeper, which will star Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) and Rossif Sutherland (Possessor).
Neon will distribute in the U.S. and handle international sales rights to the film in Cannes, with Elevation Pictures set to distribute in Canada. Perkins directs from a screenplay written by Nick Lepard. Chris Ferguson and Jesse Savath of Oddfellows will produce.”
Yes, NEON is keen to stay in the Oz Perkins business, and they’re wasting no time assembling his next project (worth noting: Perkins also has the Stephen King adaptation The Monkey in post-production even as we speak, which technically means Keeper will likely be his second follow-up to Longlegs). Both Maslany and Sutherland (who was great in Possessor) are excellent gets here, and we’re excited to see them tackle this particular story.
Speaking of which, what’s Keeper about? We’re glad you asked:
“Keeper follows a couple as they escape for a romantic anniversary weekend at a secluded cabin. When Malcolm (Sutherland) suddenly returns to the city, Liz (Maslany) finds herself isolated and in the presence of an unspeakable evil that unveils the cabin’s horrifying secrets.”
NEON really seems to be focusing its attention on the horror genre these days. They recently released the Sydney Sweeney-starring Immaculate (which itself launched a thousand memes); they’ve got Tilman Singer’s utterly bonkers-sounding Cuckoo en route; Longlegs arrives in July, and – looking to the future – they’ve also got Steven Soderbergh’s Presence and an It Follows sequel headed our way. And, yes, now they’ve got Oz Perkins’ Keeper. That’s a helluva lot of horror, and we are not complaining.
Nothing further to report on Keeper as of this writing (and, given everything else on Perkins’ dance card right now, it might be a while before there are further concrete details to share), but rest assured we’ll keep you informed as further updates roll in.
