John Waters follows 1998's benevolently vulgar PECKER with this reactionary story of another young artist. Cecil (Stephen Dorff) is a radical young (and arguably insane) filmmaker whose motive for creating his art stems from a violent dissatisfaction with the pandering product produced by Hollywood. Cecil and his gang of film terrorists, the Sprocket Holes (who each has a tattoo of the name of their favorite director), kidnap spoiled superstar Honey Whitlock (Melanie Griffith) at the Baltimore premiere of her new film with the intention of forcing her to star in their antistudio opus RAVING BEAUTY. When Honey sees the street credibility she gets from her association with Cecil's terrorist antics, however, she no longer has to be forced to participate in the Sprocket Holes' outlandish schemes. Less polished than some of his previous works (SERIAL MOM, CRY-BABY) but not nearly as crude as his reputation-earning early films, DEMENTED fits somewhere in the middle of Waters's ouevre. With an anything-goes spirit that one can rarely find outside of Waters's gleeful taboo-breaking creations, DEMENTED allows true lovers of cinema to live vicariously through characters who are desperately trying to remedy the sad state of the medium at the turn of the 21st century.

John Watters has done it again ! His hilarious spoof on modern cinema is priceless and very enjoyable.
Fresh & Brand New in plastic wrapping. I like this motion picture for several reasons: John Watters the director and did his 'homework' All of the back-up actors did a sensational job. Unable to believe it has been close to 25years since the making of this film. John Watters has come a long way since 'Mondo Trash-O' Enjoyable film. But not for everybody.

Great movie, regular transfer, lack of features.
As the title says, this is a great film. The transfer to DVD is decent, but it could've been better. The one thing that makes this DVD not have a 5/5 score is its lack of special features. Regardless, I enjoyed this DVD very much.

I saw this movie on the late, late show a couple of years ago and thought it was just another stupid nothing of a movie. But I found myself drawn in. Not that it was Oscar-worthy but I kept watching and it was very funny. For a b-rated movie I was thoroughly entertained. Melanie Griffith's character was very over the top and the "gang" members each had their own comical ticks that meshed into a very John Waters-esque good time.I saw this movie on the late, late show a couple of years ago and thought it was just another stupid nothing of a movie.
