Why did Rob Marciano leave ABC News?

Sources confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter on April 30 that Rob Marciano had been fired from ABC News after a decade with the network. Although the exact details surrounding his ousting are unclear, the meteorologist was allegedly “banned” from Good Morning America‘s Times Square set — where the show films daily — back in March 2023.

At the time, sources told Page Six that Marciano had allegedly made a female employee feel uncomfortable. “He was found to have done something … that was improper, but he was punished for it, and they still haven’t let him return,” an insider told the outlet. The circumstances surrounding the alleged incident were also not revealed, but the insider claimed that Marciano had been dealing with “anger management issues” amidst his divorce from wife Eryn. “He made people feel uncomfortable. There was a period where there were some issues, a number of alarming events,” the second source claimed.

Eryn filed for divorce after 11 years of marriage in June 2021, and the divorce was quietly settled in January 2022. “The last couple of years have been very difficult,” Marciano told PEOPLE at the time. “I didn’t want this and tried to save the marriage, but we are sadly divorcing. My focus now is on my kids.” He and Eryn share daughter Madelynn and son Mason.

The meteorologist was reportedly taken off the air for a month following the alleged incident, but several months later, he was still not allowed back in the studio by GMA executive producer Simone Swink. A second source told the outlet: “There were times when [Marciano] was very cranky and angry … unsavory behavior on his part. He was pulled off to deal with it and he’s been back.” They added that Swink was running “a very tight ship” and being “extra cautious.” The producer was appointed to the position after former boss Michael Corn was fired from the network for due to claims that he sexually assaulted two women. “She’s no-nonsense and is very serious. She’s focused on the work and wants to keep [her staff] focused and happy. She’s very protective of her team,” an insider said of Swink.

Despite the alleged incident on the GMA set, Marciano continued to provide weather reports for ABC News’ other platforms, including World News Tonight, which shoots in a different New York-based studio. In the months leading up to his firing, however, his appearances became less and less frequent. Industry newsletter Puck seemingly confirmed Marciano’s behavior, writing on X (formerly Twitter): “Multiple staffers had made complaints about Marciano’s behavior over the years and he was at least temporarily barred from main GMA set in NYC.”

Neither Marciano nor ABC News have made an official statement regarding the ousting, and the latter has declined to comment.
