Thomas Lee Tilford, age 70, of Brownstown, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Tilford attended Mt. Zion Church, Medora.

Tom began working at Lear Siegler, later known as Seymour Housewares, after attending Jennings County High School, and subsequently worked there for over 25 years. He then started Tom Tilford Excavating, which he owned and operated for more than 20 years before retiring in 2013.

Tom loved and cherished his family and friends. He loved working on his farm, riding his side-by-side with his family and friends on trails he had cut through the woods on his farm, fishing, and hunting, especially hunting arrowheads and artifacts. He also loved driving his antique vehicles for pleasure and to car shows. Tom was a member of the National Rifle Association, and the National Street Rod Association.

Born on August 6, 1953, in Seymour, Tom was the son of Edward F. and Mary E. (Ferguson) Tilford, both of whom preceded him in death. On March 16, 1974, at Central Christian Church, Seymour, he married Pamela Ann McMillan, and she survives in Brownstown.

Survivors also include two daughters: Becky (Shane) Loper of Freetown, and Jennifer Tilford of Columbia, South Carolina; two brothers: Edward J. (Cheryl) Tilford and Gary (Laura) Tilford, both of Paris Crossing; two sisters: Reta Poat and Janet (Tony) Vance, both of Deputy; sister-in-law, Cathy (McMillan) Hall of Columbus; two grandchildren: Caitlin Loper and Isaiah Loper; one great-grandson, Cooper Lee Weber; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Tom was also preceded in death by two brothers-in-law: Don Poat and Randy Hall.

Funeral services for Thomas Lee Tilford will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.

Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Donor’s Choice.
