Margaret Richmond Obituary

Margaret Fayard Richmond, August 24, 1939 – May 9, 2024. Margaret burst forth onto life's stage in New Orleans at the end of the Great Depression and the beginning of World War II to Harold A. Fayard and Ruby J. Guitard. From the moment she could walk, it was apparent that all she wanted to do was dance. She attended Rosa Spilka School of Dance throughout her youth, where she graduated and taught dancing for a spell. She graduated from Annunciation High School in New Orleans where she was on the basketball team, in the drama club, and was voted "Most Likely to Succeed". Her first job was at the United Fruit Company in New Orleans, and during that time, a handsome devil, Carroll Richmond, waltzed into her life. The two fell head over heels in love and married in 1959. Throughout her entire life, Margaret continued to dance whenever she got the chance and spent over twenty years at Sylvia and Sandra Labourdette School of Dance. She could hardly wait to put together her costumes and get up on that stage every year! Margaret did it all! She sold Mary Kay products, managed clothing stores, got her degree in Interior Design, created beautiful works of art, had an antique shop in Ponchatoula and one on Magazine Street, and was an absolute charm at the perfume counters in Dillard's. She enjoyed her travels to Europe, attending Broadway shows, and always dressed to the nines! She turned heads and warmed hearts wherever she would go. At the age of 84, Margaret's body could no longer keep up with her feistiness! Her spirit broke free of its earthly confines and has taken its place among the stars, where she is now dancing with her dearest love, Carroll, who has waited nearly 9 years for her to join him. She leaves behind her joy of life with her four loving children: her son, Gregory Richmond, and his wife, Venus Ann Richmond, and her daughters, Wanda O'Malley-Keyes and husband Middleton O'Malley Keyes, Karen Richmond, and Laurie Richmond. (And we all know who her favorite was!) She also leaves behind eight incredible grandchildren, three delightful great-grandchildren, her dear friend Gavin Mailhos…and some truly wicked dance moves. Visitation for family and friends is at Greenwood Funeral Homes on Friday, May 17, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, with a reception following in the Boulevard Room. The family invites you to share your thoughts, fond memories, and condolences online at www.greenwoodfh.com.

So sad to see this! She was always such a joy to be around. She made me smile at the sight of her. I´ll never forget her quirky style and her fabulous lipstick! I´ll catch you in the sky my girl!

Margaret and Carroll were the two nicest people I have known. Margaret always tried to make the world a better place, and a better looking place. I will miss both of them.

Oh Margaret loved working with you at the fragrance counter. My first Jazz Fest was when I went with you and Caroll. Remember all the fragrant schools and parties. Margaret was always the best dressed person there. Such charm. I have some pictures during those days of you. RIP my dear friend along with Caroll!

I would see Margaret and Gavin out dancing at fairs and festivals. She always had a great time. She was always dressed to the nines. I am sure she is dancing in heaven now. May God comfort and bless her family and her dear friend Gavin at this time. Fly high Margaret!
