University of Bayreuth one of the best young universities worldwide

The renowned international THE Young University Ranking of “Universities under 50” places the University of Bayreuth among the top five percent worldwide. This once again confirms the high academic reputation and international importance of research and teaching in Bayreuth.

The Times Higher Education (THE) Ranking is the world's most respected ranking of universities, with high credibility among prospective students, academics and industry.

The THE Young University Ranking assesses universities that are less than 50 years old in five categories: Quality of teaching, quality of research, impact of research (citations), internationality of staff, students and researchers, and knowledge transfer to industry.

The ranking has been published annually since 2012. The University of Bayreuth has been taking part in the ranking since 2013 - and has firmly established itself in the upper field. This year, it occupies 38th place out of a total of 673 ranked universities. This means that the university has improved by a whole 21 places compared to the previous year and is among the top five percent of young universities worldwide. In Germany, the University of Bayreuth is in second place and secured a place on the winners' podium as a “Young University”.

“Our excellent performance in the THE Young University Ranking underlines the international appeal of the University of Bayreuth. We are delighted that the innovation of research and quality of teaching at our university are recognized and rewarded internationally,” says University President Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible. “In Bayreuth, cooperation is international and interdisciplinary - whether in research or teaching - and this is an advantage for researchers and students alike. Our Collaborative Research Centers Microplastics, Biofabrication and MultiTrans (material science transport processes) are established examples of this.”

This was also recognized by the Bavarian State Minister of Science and the Arts: “It's young and it's good: the University of Bayreuth is a real feel-good place for the best time of your life - this is confirmed by its top position in this renowned ranking for younger universities! The courses on offer are innovative, international and interdisciplinary, and the quality of life is legendary! Congratulations to all those responsible for this great success and a clear enrolment recommendation to all future students!” says Markus Blume.
