James' obsession with the Wizard of Oz

Discussion

Discuss: How often do you recall James bringing up the Wizard of Oz completely out of the blue and usually comparing it to something completely unrelated? I know it's his favorite movie but it's something that I've always found funny about James, like he's just waiting on edge to talk about it. Most recently I watched his FF3 (6) review and got a genuine chuckle when he compared it to Oz. Felt like a blast from the past

I don’t begrudge him that. The Wizard of Oz really is one of the most important pieces of American culture in existence.

No bregrudgement - I just find it endearing how he's still doing it lol

I think it’s endearing and innocent. A good one to get excited about. Glad he gave a shoutout to the original books too. I wish he’d have made more content like that because it was obvious he was showing them to his kids at the time, so he could not pretend like his life hasn’t changed while still making engaging content.

Dude please tell me how it is an important part of the culture. It was a movie. Maybe movie culture but not the culture of an entire country.

That’s completely and totally false. It has affected the lexicon, cultural references, and is one of the few pieces of truly American myth. I’m talking the original L. Frank Baum books before the movie even came out. Then when the movie did come out, The Wizard of Oz entered true immorality.

I def see what you're saying but I just feel like I disagree which is totally ok. Thank you for explaining your point of view.

It’s not a matter of opinion. It’s just fact. Maybe it doesn’t resonate with you personally, but it is inexorably woven into the fabric of American culture. It can’t be denied. It’s as American as blue jeans and apple pie by this point.

Oz is the name of the land, not the wizard

Oz is the name of the wizard though...

I thought his favorite movie was It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad World

Lmfao, I just wrote the exact same comment. I hate how he always says the full title when speaking about that movie. Can't he just shorten it for once

He hopes to one day meet the Wizard of Oz so he can give him better hair.

Monkey's paw turns him into the Cowardly Lion

I thought King Kahhng was his favorite movie of any john-ruh?

u/Alexander_McKay avatar

No it’s Mad Mad Mad Mad World. He made a video of his favorite films. King Kong is number two if I’m not mistaken.

You mean:

It's a mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad world?

I always hated how he had to say the title fully - every fking time the movie is mentioned. Why not just say "oh my favourite movie, it's a mad mad world" or something like that. Why the need to put all the "mad"s in there? Sounds so autistic

It's a great film and is an artistic inspiration for a lot of people, so I can't blame him for bringing it up a lot

Actually Bimmy’s favorite movie is It’s a mad mad mad mad world and also Frankenstein is the name of the doctor.

You're all so ignorant. I mean, don't you realize how it feels to be a badly made character in a movie that lacks any intelligence? This movie's my life, and I can't take it anymore.

I think it's because it was all over until the 2000s as the most important movie in the history of cinema. James grew up on Hollywood docs so it's a platform to feel important or "in the right"
