The woman was ordered to repay $251,569 and serve three years of supervised release after her prison term.

“Tabitha Dobi misused her position to defraud hundreds of thousands of dollars from an employer who trusted her,” U.S. Attorney Steinberg said. “This sentence holds her accountable for her fraudulent activity.”

According to court records, a real estate company in St. Simons launched an investigation after a missing cash deposit led to inconsistencies in their financial records.

FBI investigators determined that Dobi used her position in the company that she held for four years to steal cash deposits intended for the company’s property rentals.

Officials said she manipulated the company’s accounting system to cover up the changes.

Investigators said Dobi instructed one rental tenant to pay her directly through an online payment app and used the money for her personal benefit.

She also allowed friends to stay at the company’s rental properties for free and without the company’s authorization.

As a result, the company lost $251,569.

“Dobi violated the trust placed in her by her employer and will now spend time in prison paying for her crimes,” Will Clarke, Supervisor Senior Resident Agent of FBI Atlanta’s Brunswick office.
