BRANSON, Mo. (WTVO) — An Illinois man considered a “serial rapist” by authorities, has been arrested after two decades on the run for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Task Force, Herman Carroll, 72, was arrested on Saturday, May 11th in Branson, Missouri.

Carroll had been on the run since posting bond and failing to appear in court in Moultrie County in 2000, on five counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse, criminal sexual assault of a child, and criminal sexual assault.

In addition to a July 3rd crime involving the 12-year-old minor, Carroll had previous child sex offense convictions in 1983 and 1993, authorities said.

On May 8th, 2024, the investigation, begun in June 2022, revealed information that Carroll was likely residing in Branson. He was taken into custody 3 days later and booked into the Taney County Jail, awaiting extradition.
