Tim Sherwood says he witnessed the Aston Villa fans do something ‘incredible’ v Liverpool

Aston Villa produced the most remarkable of comebacks to snatch a point against Liverpool tonight and Tim Sherwood was blown away by something the fans did.

The Villans came from 3-1 down to score twice in the space of five minutes and rescue what could be massive point in the Champions League race.

Substitute Jhon Duran was the man who came off the bench to be the hero, scoring twice as he sent Villa Park wild when all looked lost.

For Unai Emery, it was yet another step towards the top four being secured and he’ll be hoping Man City do the business this week when they face Tottenham.

However, while it was the players who got the result, former manager Tim Sherwood felt that the crowd inside Villa Park also deserved a special mention.

Tim Sherwood praises Aston Villa fans after Liverpool comeback

Speaking on the game for Premier League Productions, Sherwood lauded the impact the Villa fans had on the game as a whole.

“Incredible. The fans, you can hear them, they dragged them through that. They were running on fumes, they are empty at the moment. The desire, the character are pulling them through and them fans are helping.

“It’s an amazing game of football and a wonderful advert for the Premier League.”

Villa Park one of England’ most special grounds

In and among all the modern stadiums in the game and how good they might be, Villa Park remains one of the best ‘old school’ style grounds around.

In games like tonight, you just knew that if Villa got the one goal back to make it 3-2, then the whole mood would change and that’s exactly what happened.

Villa Park has always been an iconic ground. It played host to some big games in Euro 96 and over the years has seen some epic FA Cup semi-final clashes, like the Man United v Arsenal tie in 1999.

Tonight, then, was just another reminded how these grand old grounds can have a big impact on how a team performs.
