Playing with other kids

My son is 2.5 and up until recently was super adventurous and would play with other kids and explore etc. The past 2 weeks or so he’s a lot more reserved and at the park is just on the swing the whole time and more observant. He started at daycare this week and has just been watching the other kids from afar, sitting on a chair alone. Is this a phase? What’s going on?

This is called onlooker or spectator play and is developmentally appropriate at 2.5 years.
