Orlando Bloom Expresses Regret Over Role in 2004 FilmTroy

In a recent interview with Variety, actor Orlando Bloom candidly reflected on his experience filming the 2004 historical epic Troy, revealing his discomfort and regret over playing the role of Paris. Bloom, known for his iconic roles in The Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises, admitted that he has "blanked that from my mind" when it comes to his portrayal of the Trojan prince.

Directed by Wolfgang Petersen, Troy featured an all-star cast including Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, and Peter O'Toole. Despite the film's commercial success, grossing $497.4 million worldwide, Bloom expressed his dissatisfaction with his character, stating, "I didn't want to do the movie. I didn't want to play this character... It was completely against everything I felt in my being."

Bloom specifically mentioned a scene where Paris crawls along the floor, beaten and holding his brother's leg, as a moment that made him uncomfortable. He admitted that one of his agents at the time convinced him to take on the role, citing that scene as a key moment in the film. However, Bloom now believes that's why he "blanked" the experience from his mind.

Bloom isn't the only cast member to have spoken negatively about the film. The late Peter O'Toole described director Wolfgang Petersen as a "clown" and claimed he walked out of a screening after 15 minutes. Brad Pitt, who starred as Achilles, also revealed in a 2019 interview that he was put in the film as a favor to the studio and didn't enjoy the experience, stating, "It became a famous commercial kind of thing."

Troy, based on Homer's Iliad, tells the story of the legendary Trojan War, focusing on the battle between the Trojans and the Greeks. The film, released on May 14, 2004, received mixed reviews from critics, holding a 53% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it was a box office success, becoming the 8th highest-grossing film of 2004.

Orlando Bloom's candid revelationabout his experience in Troy sheds light on the challenges actors face when taking on roles that don't align with their personal values or comfort levels. Despite the film's commercial success and star-studded cast, Bloom's regret over his portrayal of Paris serves as a reminder that not every role is a perfect fit for every actor.
