Los Angeles-based dancer and singer-songwriter Mette Towley, aka METTE dropped a new music video for “BET” directed by C Prinz on May 20, 2024.
The song was released earlier this month.
The track was written by Lauren Aquilina, Kevin Hickey, and Mette Towley. Produced by Zhone.
METTE said of the song, “'BET' was born during a time when I felt invisible, and I was experiencing unrequited romantic love in the dating game. In the session with my co-writer Lauren Aquilina and producer Zhone, I was venting and hypothesizing how I might achieve a reciprocal dose of affection from the person I longed for.”
She continued, “I remember saying, 'One day, I bet they'll fall in love with me!' I remember hearing the first bounce of the song, and I was singing along in my bedroom mirror. Then, something magical occurred to me as I was singing to myself. I thought I was writing a song about external love, but really, I was writing a song about eternal love. I realize now that 'BET' was meant to remind me that self-love is worth betting everything on.”- The video was filmed at a parking lot in Los Angeles. She filmed the video for an episode of black-ish at the same place in 2015.
METTE shared, “THE DREAM IS ALIVE AND WELL! I ran into a familiar place whilst shooting the BET music video. In 2015 I was backup dancing in LA and cast as a dancer in a special episode of black-ish. Check out lil' younger me in my roaring 20's costume! I was so happy to be on set that day! And now… running into this lot gave me perspective of how far I've come on my journey.” - source : Apple Music
