EXCLUSIVE: Southampton striker Che Adams in talks with Wolves

Southampton's star striker Che Adams is in advanced discussions with Wolves over a potential move to the Molineux Stadium, FootballTransfers can reveal.

The 27-year-old, whose contract with Southampton is set to expire next month, has emerged as a key target for Wolves as they aim to bolster their attacking options ahead of the upcoming Premier League season by utilising the free agent.

Adams played a pivotal role in Southampton's campaign in which they have a chance to make it back to the Premier League at the first attempt following their relegation last term.

However, it appears Wolves have stolen a march in the race for Adams' signature and we understand talks between the player's representatives and the side's officials are said to be progressing positively.

Adam provided 20 goal contributions to the Saints this term but it's not clear whether he will be fit enough to play in Southampton's second-leg semi-final playoff clash with West Brom on Friday, in what would be his last game for the club.

The forward is set to leave the Saints when his contract expires in June, spelling an end to five years on the south coast where he scored 49 goals in a total of 190 games.

Che Adams set to depart Saints

Earlier this year, Adams admitted that Southampton and city will 'always play a part' in his life.

Speaking to the Saints matchday programme, Adams said: "When your kid is born there and you've had most of your life and your football down there, it's always special.

"Southampton will always play a part in our lives and especially my daughter's life. A club like Southampton is a Premier League team.

"Any team that's come here this season can see how well established and how big the club is, in terms of fanbase and in terms of the staff around the place as well.

"It's a Premier League club. For me personally, it's just about - and I said it in a statement at the end of last season - getting the club back to where it should be again because that's where we deserve to be."
