‘It’s not sour grapes’… Ally McCoist shares how he ‘genuinely’ feels about Celtic beating Rangers

Celtic’s win over Rangers takes Brendan Rodgers to within a whisker of his third league title as the Hoops boss.

Returning for a second spell, the Celtic manager was desperate to retain the title to make amends with the fans for how he left the club the first time around.

And after beating Rangers on Saturday, a draw against Kilmarnock will put the icing on what is already an almost-baked cake.

And speaking about the Celtic win, former Rangers striker, Ally McCoist, has shared how he really feels about the Parkhead club’s victory and the impending title win.

Ally McCoist’s ‘sour grapes’ after Celtic win

The now radio presenter was asked how he felt by Jeff Stelling about his team losing to Celtic and whilst he admits that he’s not bitter about the defeat, McCoist came across as sounding, well, bitter about the defeat.

McCoist said [talkSPORT], “You know looking at it, and I’ve said before Celtic are going to win the league and they deserve to because they’ve got the most points.

“But I think both sides of the Old F*rm are not great this year. I really don’t, I genuinely don’t.

“I think Celtic are better but I don’t think they’re anything like where they’ve been in recent years.

“I think a Rangers’ recent form, has been shocking, frankly.

“Losing at Motherwell, losing at Ross County, drawing at Dundee and then with another defeat the weekend.

“So the title will go to Celtic. And do they deserve it? Yes, of course, they do.

“But I don’t care what anybody says, it’s not sour grapes, because I genuinely, and I’ve said for weeks, I think both sides are average.”

Not sour grapes? Of course Ally. The former Rangers man sounded just as dejected as he did after revealing how he felt when Celtic went 2-0 up at Ibrox in the 3-3 draw.

And if there are no sour grapes, why even mention where he thinks both teams are in terms of quality at the moment?

For me, McCoist sounded a wee bit bitter about the defeat. And it will be interesting to hear his verdict at the end of the month when either Celtic or Rangers will lift the Scottish Cup.
