BBC fans begging for second series of 'seriously good' new crime drama after binging first season

Even with the hotter weather and the summer holidays just around the corner, it's clear many of us loving nothing more than to cosy up under the covers to some proper good telly.

And the latest TV fixation is leaving BBC viewers begging for second series of a 'seriously good' new crime drama after rattling through the first season in no time at all.

Now, the six-part series is an on-screen adaptation of the internationally best-selling Inspector Rebus novels written by Ian Rankin.

Set in Edinburgh, the series reimagines the life of lead John Rebus (played by Richard Rankin) as a younger Detective Sergeant, who is ultimately led into a life of violence and criminality that hits close to home when his brother Michael (Brian Ferguson), an ex-soldier, ends up on the wrong side of the law.

The series also stars the likes of Lucie Shorthouse, Amy Manson, Neshla Caplan, Noof Ousellam, Stuart Bowman, Caroline Lee Johnson and Sean Buchanan.

Now, the first season hit our screens just last week (17 May) and it's clear fans of Rebus are itching for their next fix of the programme with many taking to social media to share their praise.

Yesterday (19 May), Ian took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a sweet thank you message to all his supporters.

"Thanks to everyone for your comments on the new Rebus series. Some of you have imbibed the whole thing already and are asking about season two - out of my hands but very much in those of @BBC," he revealed, prompting an avalanche of hype amongst fans.

One Twitter user penned: "I've been a fan of all Ian Rankin's works for decades, so was a tad worried about this new adaption. It's pure brilliant, binged watched and cannae wait for next season. #Rebus."

"I’ve just binged the first three episodes of #Rebus and it’s seriously good," praised a second. "Richard Rankin is terrific in the lead role, but there are strong female characters, references to 'Jambos' and John Knox and, brooding over it all, Edinburgh at its Jekyll-and-Hyde best and worst!"

A third piped up: "Binged the series. Loved the books, this series is brilliant. Masterpiece."

"Binged it! So great. Richard is a perfect Rebus.... please BBC make another season," echoed a fourth while a fifth admitted: "Finished #Rebus on iPlayer in one day.

"Wonderful series, great work from all involved. So many touchstones for fans of the books, whilst still being accessible to everyone," before adding a 'fingers crossed' emoji for 'Series 2'.

Another echoed: "Having read every @Beathhigh Rebus story I’m just blown away by the new TV series. Authentic and true to the spirit of the novels while adding new layers. You’ll want to binge the whole lot."

And a final Twitter user added: "Just finished binge-watching Rebus. For anyone a bit unsure about the first couple of episodes stick with it. Ep 3-6 are excellent. Really cooking in more ways than one.

"Bringing Rebus’ brother and his crew in was a masterstroke. Looking forward to Series 2. Now…time for bed."
