- MLB. Paul Skenes' debut with Pirates gave Andrew McCutchen an epic opportunity
Some baseball fans weren't too blown away following Paul Skenes' long-awaited MLB debut. Despite showing off his electric arm with seven strikeouts, he ended up giving up six hits over 4.0 innings and allowing three earned runs. But Skenes shut just about every hater up in his follow-up.
Skenes made some history at arguably the most iconic stadium in MLB. He became the Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher with the most strikeouts in a single start at Wrigley Field. Considering the two teams have played approximately 2,600 times against each other, it's an extremely impressive accomplishment.
Paul Skenes gives up 0 hits in second-ever start
Skenes struck out 11 Cubs hitters and didn't allow a single hit through 6.0 innings. His pitch count hit 100 at the end of the sixth inning, and he was taken out of the game in order to not over-exert the 21-year-old's arm. The bullpen couldn't finish off the no-hit bid, but Skenes showed his sky-high potential.
Given Skenes' performance, many will begin to dub his girlfriend Olivia Dunne a "bad luck charm". Dunne was present at Skenes' first start in Pittsburgh but was absent in Chicago where Skenes dominated.
Dunne was busy attending the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit red carpet launch in New York. We'll see if she's in attendance for Skenes' next start, which will likely come at home against the San Francisco Giants next Thursday.
