Playland Park, Rye will open for the 2024 season Sat., May 18 at 11 a.m. and will be open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. that day and May 19, 25, 25 & 27. There will be a ribbon cutting for the park’s opening on Sat., May 18 at 11 a.m. Festivities will include a drumline procession, a special performance by an electric violinist, strolling entertainers, face painters and airbrush tattoo artists as well as an opportunity  to take a “first ride” on some of the newest, as well as most beloved and original rides including the Dragon Coaster, which celebrates its 95th anniversary this year. Additional dates will be listed in upcoming issues. An Access Season Pass is $150 and includes unlimited visits to the amusement park, beach, pool, lake paddle boats, free parking and 10% off select products. Rye Arts Center and The Rotary Club of Rye will unveil the Rye’sAbove Public Art Project featuring large and medium-sized aluminum butterflies, as well as small steel butterflies, aimed at uplifting the community through the arts while supporting educational programs in the region. The large butterfly is located on Village Green, 1061 Boston Post Rd., Rye; smaller butterflies are located along Purchase Street and throughout Rye. The Bruce Museum, 1 Museum Dr., Greenwich is presenting Arms and Armor: Evolution and Innovation thru Aug. 11; Andy Warhol: Small is Beautiful, thru Oct. 13. Experience up-close encounters with some of the Pop art movement’s most iconic works and the sculpture King Nyani which has taken up ongoing residence at the Bruce. King Nyani, named for the Swahili word for gorilla, is a bronze sculpture created by the husband-wife artist team of Gillie and Marc Schattner. The sculpture is a behemoth, clocking in at nearly 5,000 pounds and stretching 23 feet long and 8.5 feet high.
