Amad has broken a six-year Premier League record with his stunning impact for Manchester United

Amad was the inspiration as Manchester United earned a much-needed victory over Newcastle in midweek.

Following on from the Arsenal game, this was the first time Amad had ever started back to back Premier League games for Manchester United since his move in 2021.

It’s been quite the wait, and the Ivorian is showing what he is capable of if he just gets the opportunity.

Amad provided the assist for Kobbie Mainoo‘s opener, before thundering in a strike of his own in the second half, his first goal for the club since his memorable winner against Liverpool.

Amad breaks a record

Amad broke a six-year record with his performance in Manchester United’s victory over Newcastle.

He became the youngest African player since 2018 to score a goal and provide an assist in the same game.

The previous player to do so was Kelechi Iheanacho for Leicester City against West Bromwich Albion in March 2018.

Iheanacho was 21-years-old at the time. Amad is also currently 21.

On the pitch with Iheanacho that day was Harry Maguire, a Leicester player at the time. He was not involved for United due to injury.

Jonny Evans was on the pitch for United alongside Amad. He was actually at West Brom when this game was played, but he was not part of the matchday squad.

Amad has a good record

Amad now has more goal contributions than Antony in the Premier League this season. That’s an incredibly low bar to overcome, but notable given the disparity in minutes played, just 313 for Amad and 1,324 for Antony.

In limited opportunities, Amad is producing. He has scored three senior goals for Manchester United, against AC Milan in 2021, and against Newcastle and Liverpool.

If he is thrown in at Wembley for the FA Cup Final, as Steve Bruce hopes, don’t bet against him producing in another big game against City.
