Best dunker debate

Does anyone have video of the Hatten 360? It was in Aumni Hall 2002-2003 season against LIU or Stony Brook I believe.

Wild to see from a 6 footer.

Speaking of dunkers of which there are many…… which front line was best?

Wenningtin, Berry, Glass

Werdan, Sealy, Middleton

Searcy, Davis, Schaffer

Paultz, Abraham,,Cleuss

And don’t go by the teams success as there were other players like Mullin who contributed to that.
The 1968-69 teams front court had Paultz, Abraham and John Warren (Depre and Calzonetti were the guards) and finished ranked 8th in the AP Poll.

Don’t forget Ed Searcy who criminally in his time of college hoops was unable to dunk but could out jump all of the others mentioned. 😎👍

Like Searcy, neither Beaver Smith nor Mel Davis were permitted to sully the game of basketball by using their superior athletic skills to overcome the neurotic shortcomings of diminuative white men. To the contrary, which is why while at SJU those cheaters plus John Warren, Joe Depre, {{Billy Paultz}}, Glen Williams, George Johnson and especially {{Paul Berwanger}} were not permitted to jump in the air and throw the ball vigorously through the net. That would have been cheating.

Similarly over that period Lew Alcindor, Elvin Hayes, Wes Unseld, Bob Lanier, Spencer Haywood, Artis Gilmore, Marvin Barnes, Bernard King, Sidney Wicks, Bob McAdoo and DAVID THOMPSON were not permitted to dunk. Some would say that not letting David Thompson dunk is like not letting Ursala Andress pose naked, AKA a crime against humanity.

I am not one of those people: allowing more skilled participants to dominate sports is wrong, especially of those participants comprise minorities. I say no. Four passes and then run the picket fence at them. That is what good basketball is all about.

(Remember that time when Boo Harvey was jogging the ball up court and Lou cautioned him to "slow down" and Boo said (paraphrasing) 'I already have.' That was funny. It's still funny.

tl;dr:

Best dunker: David Russel| Walter Berry | Someone else

Best nascent dunker: Ryan Williams | Rasheed Jordan | Someone else

Willie Glass!!!!

Only being able to really remember guys I watched Live from '96 onwards... Postell was prob my favorite dunker... always seemed to be catching alleys...

IIIFFFF* given more of a chance... but dont think he was able to stay on the court due to obvious reasons (he wasn't good at this level).... Felix Balamou could soar.... I think the game Lavin started him... ruining his potential red-shirt (i think...could be making that up) .... he got an offensive rebound about 2 ft above the rim... i know this cause my seats at that game were at rim level...

Just looked at this thread for the first time and was shocked - shocked, I say - to discover that a fellow capable of spelling "nascent" could somehow misspell both "Ursula" and "Rysheed" in the same post.

I suppose we are only human after all. Warped, misanthropic, and morally compromised, perhaps - but still human. Or humanoid. Or something. 😇

I figured that judgement stuff would get under your skin and as usual I was correct. As opposed to this vicious personal attack upon my skin and by a moderator no less, which skin it didn't get under. Oh no, while faced I made a typo and then I git [sec] [sic] a call back from a post from several weeks ago. Good job, you're winning!

Speaking of winning!:

"A couple of years ago during the off-season [lawmanfan] created a March Madness type bracket on [redman] that pitted poster against poster in a contest relative to their rhetorical skills and basketball knowledge. Your humble narrator went out in the first round. (Which perhaps explains my bitterness.) Whereas LMF, being a modest sort, had himself losing a tough one in the [final four] to the eventual [winner]. This despite the fact that he's an alleged lawyer who can't spell judgement. As opposed to me, a dedicated Onanist not being able to spell Ursula."

Are we human? Or are we dancer?

The dunk was outlawed from 1967-1976. Sonny's last year at St. Johns was 1966-1967 so I don't think the ban affected him except perhaps for his senior year.

I wonder how often Sonny dunked, considering the under 50% shooting FG.
