Prepare the tissues, because things are getting quite teary and verklempt in a Chicago Fire promo for next Wednesday’s Season 12 finale (NBC, 9/8c), which marks longtime cast member Eamonn Walker‘s last one as a series regular.
“You made 51 a family, Chief, and this firehouse a home,” Cruz tells Walker’s Boden in the above video.
“You’ve inspired a group of firefighters who know the meaning of bravery,” Stella adds as tears are shed and hugs are shared.
As previously reported, Walker will exit the long-running NBC drama in the May 22 season finale, titled “Never Say Goodbye,” after playing Deputy District Chief Wallace Boden for 12 seasons. The actor will not be entirely missing from the show, as he is expected to appear in a recurring capacity in the future, per Deadline. (The series was already renewed for a 13th season this past March.)
Boden has been M.I.A. recently, with Severide stepping in as the firehouse’s ranking officer in his absence. In next week’s installment, “Boden makes a decision that impacts the race for Deputy Commissioner,” reads the official synopsis.
Walker has starred on the show since its 2012 debut and was one of five remaining series regular from the first season. (The others are Taylor Kinney, David Eigenberg, Christian Stolte and Joe Minoso.) His departure comes following the exit of Kara Killmer as paramedic Sylvie Brett, who married Matt Casey (played by former series regular Jesse Spencer) and moved to Portland with him in the season’s sixth episode. Additionally, Alberto Rosende, who played firefighter Blake Gallo, departed in the Season 12 premiere.
#OneChicago fans, how are you feeling after watching the promo? Hit the comments!
I really hate to see him go he was the heart of 51
and soul.
Great show !! Been a big fan since day 1, exceptional cast – each & every a tor / character puts this show all together/ cheif Boden played a great part of the show – you hate to see them leave the cast – they learned from actual firefighters to play these parts & act it out – I have a son who actually is a NYC firefighter-
Minoso and Stolte were guest stars in Season 1 . They became regulars later
Looks like with all the og cast leaving I will have to find something else to watch, Chief Borden kinda reminded me of my days as an explorer with Los Angeles County Firehouse 164 they also acted like family
I know we can take some comfort in the fact that he’ll still be around as recurring, but what does that mean? His presence will definitely be missed. Speaking of missed presence, tonight’s episode was brutal. I felt like I watching an episode filmed during COVID when you had to restrict the number of people in a room. I know they have budget cuts, but leaving half the cast out of an episode is crazy.
And the fact that Tony & Cap had significantly more screen time this ep than ever before, most likely because they get paid far less as guests stars.
Recurring likely means he will become DC – based at HQ – but could show up occasionally where the story needs.
No..no..no..
I look forward to seeing him every episode….I will miss you ❤️
The show won’t be the same without you…..All of you are needed…All of you MADE this show successful.. TOGETHER ❤️❤️
Why is all the best actors leaving Chicago Fire..Chicago Fire isn’t as good as it use to be I am at a point to stop watching it….If you keep loosing the old cast I will stop looking it.
I’m glad the spineless jerk is gone I’m sure he’s a nice person in real life , but his character really sucks , he was always kissing Casey’s butt and was never there for Severide
Wooow!!! I respect your opinion and I partly get why you’re saying this but give the brother some love….
Very sad to see him.ho. I pray he returns sooner than later
He is the show. He runs the house well, he cares about is fire fighters and crew he lives the firehouse. He has that ability that makes everyone love him. Can’t noone replace the cheif.
Why are people leaving Chicago fire? What happened to Carver Boden and stella
I love All the characters! This is going to mk me cry bc he us the FATHR oF THE FAMILY! As long as he has recurring status it will bokay, but if not it will not b as good show. It was bad enuff Casey and Brett left. Hope they don’t completely ruin show.
Already in tears
Y is he leaving?? Inquiring minds would like to know?
One of the GREATEST,I worked along side with him as well others as a security officer for empire etc.He will be missed in the scene. It’s said that he’s leaving 51.But never forgot.❤️💋🙏.
He’s 62 – maybe he just wants to slow down a bit.
WHAT IS GOING ON WITH CBS PRODUCERS IM SURE THEY ARE ALL STUPID IDIOTS BY TAKING CHIEF BODEN OUT OF THIS VERY POPULAR SERIES THE SHOW RATINGS IS GONNA DROP VERY QUICK JUST LIKE IT DID WHEN SEVERIDE WAS MISSING FOR FEW EPISODES ME & MY DAD LOVE WATCHING IT EVERY WEEK & KNOW WHO ARE THE GOOD ACTORS WELL IT TOO LATE NOW TO CHANGE IT & I HOPE THEY READ ALL THE COMMENTS FROM THE VIEWERS & SEE THAT THEY ARE DOING WRONG STUPID THING.
Well, first of all, Chicago Fire AIRS ON NBC NOT CBS! Eamonn Walker has been on the show for 12 seasons which is a good run. It was his decision. He probably wants to return to his primary residence in England. People forget Eamonn is British and a trained Shakespeare actor. 🎭
As a retired fireman of 37 years, I’d come out of retirement and go to work for you, Chief.
You did an EXCELLENT job of portraying what a Battalion Chief should act like.
Congratulations & stay safe!!
Turn off your CAPS!!!
I am heartbroken and very sad I will miss him please dont
Oh no! Chief Boden is the heartbeat of 51
No he can’t leave I like the roll he plays and plays it great. Stop taking away the original cast
sounds like the end of chicago fire after all the original characters are leaving..i love chicago fire actually the whole chicago series
Wow Chief Boden is leaving the show. He’ll be missed but the show will go on. I look forward to what’s to come. GREAT SHOW with an equally great cast of actors and actresses. All te best to Chief Boden (Eamon Walker) The show MUST GO ON!!!
Chief Boden will be missed. He’s one of original characters that the hit series started. Best of luck on future endeavors!!
I will deeply miss Chief Boden on Chicagoo fire. He kept the family in check. There has been too many replacements on Chicago fire in my opinion. CASEY BRETT AND NOW CHIEF BODEN? Please stop…we need stability in our favorite One Chicago series. We never get bored with our favorite characters but we do with constant replacements.
Very sad to see him.ho. I pray he returns sooner than later

This show is losing a lot of its originals I hope it can carry on without them. I hope this is the last of the departures
It’s Another Big Loss For This Awesome Series to Have Cheif Boden not part of 51.That man Always had his crew’s back ,helped them with their plans, surprise ‘s,or, set’s up’s.Saved their lives.Cared about them.Every Cheif that would sit in for a shift were big headed, rude,or useless! As the one Cheif put That’s Boden”s House Leave It Alone
Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go!!!! Boden will be missed!
