Would do a quick guess it's a Marshall Superbass 4x15 (maybe full stack) proto Lemmy. I think it's a Tom Dowd production which could lead you further into recording aspects. Old micing is bigger distance and more room, because they're beyond great and track live, and there's more room in the mix to fit more room and distance in there. Quite similar to The bass on Steve Albini records. I like Heartshaped Box as the best example. Depth in bass is what I always love to chase like this.

But I'm curious for better more specific answers though.

TBH you're probably close to nailing it with this. As far as instruments go I believe he recorded with both the EB-3 and Longhorn

I saw Cream live back then so probably the Gibson EB3 he was playing and a Marshall superbass head and cabs. No idea what studio wizardry was used.
