Notre Dame QB Target Noah Grubbs Is A "Generational Talent"

Renowned quarterback coach Baylin Trujillo gives insight into 2026 quarterback Noah Grubbs

When talking about 2026 quarterback recruiting for Notre Dame, Lake Mary (Fla.) High School star signal caller Noah Grubbs is a name that has firmly moved to the top of the board. The Irish staff has been trending in a strong direction with the Florida native, securing a spot in his top ten schools list along with Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, Miami, Auburn, Nebraska, Texas A&M, UNC and UCF.

That’s a good spot to be in, but make no mistake about it, Notre Dame is currently the team to beat for Grubbs. His personal quarterback coach, Baylin Trujillo, spoke with Irish Breakdown about his star pupil. Not only is Grubbs an impressive talent, but his game and body has continued to evolve this offseason.

"He is a generational talent,” Trujillo told Irish Breakdown. "His stats say that he is 6-4, 215 to 220 pounds, he's actually 6-5 and 193 pounds. He got all the way up to 228 last season and we had to have a sit down with our little village. We call it the village, and it's his team. It's his parents, It's myself, it's a couple of different people outside of the family. It's his nutritionists, his stretch guy and his speed and agility guy. So we have a solid team around Noah and we cut him down from 228 to 193.

"He's about 8% body fat now,” he continued. "You see him now and his physique has completely changed. So the kid that you saw last August who now has seven school records, he’s even more dynamic now. He's just proved to the whole entire country that he can do both, whether you wanted to be the the stocky 6-5, 220-pound pocket quarterback or you want him to be the 6-5, 190-pound agile kid that can create things with his feet, he's going to do it both ways and his body is able to accept both ways.”

It’s not hyperbolic to say that Grubbs has been raised to be a big time quarterback. With the type of support team behind him, the upside is without question. To add to his physical growth, Grubbs is also a player who has been given access to plenty of knowledge at an early age.

"He is definitely a generational talent,” said Trujillo. "I believe he has the skill set to go to the NFL. He’s been trained early at a young age with the IQ of the game. He’s been with Tyson Hinshaw and Darin Hinshaw. Darin is the offensive coordinator at UCF right now. Tyson is his wide receiver/co-offensive coordinator at Lake Mary right now. He was his coach in youth football. So at a very young age, Noah was exposed to the real fundamentals of the game, understanding protections, understanding coverages, and throwing the ball around.

"So as far as his IQ level, it's off the charts,” Trujillo added. "He's now really learning protections and understanding schemes and how to really protect himself with Coach Donnelly, who's the offensive coordinator at Lake Mary now, who also was a former Miami Hurricane coach and alumni there. He’s got a lot of great offensive minds around him.”

For some players, there are early glimpses into how special they can be. Grubbs is no exception. It was the first day he worked with Trujillo that he understood what he was working with. There was something different about the talented passer.

"I'll never forget the first day I trained him,” he explained. "I literally told him if you take this seriously, I saw the natural gift in his ability to release the ball and the pop and the twerk in his lower body. I said if you put that baseball down and you believe in my process, I promise you I'll make you the number one quarterback in the country. His dad kind of looked at me funny, kind of chuckled a little bit, but they bought in and look at him now.”

Grubbs is a talented player, who is not short of options. On top of his offers from his finalists, he has also been offered by Penn State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Colorado, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, West Virginia and Duke among others.

The Florida native is currently rated as a four-star recruit according to Rivals, 247Sports and ESPN. On the Rivals ranking, Grubbs currently sits as the No. 44 overall player and No. 3 quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class.

The 6-4, 195-pound signal caller has put together two tremendous seasons for Lake Mary. So far during his career he has thrown for 5,268 yards and 66 touchdowns. That included 49 touchdowns during his breakout sophomore season.
