No escape for alleged Umgeni Park complex thief

The suspect was spotted on Hunters Way by officers of a local security company and tried to escape, but he was apprehended.

The scene played out in Underwood Road after a resident in a complex contacted Marshall Security stating that someone attempted to steal copper pipes from his unit in the complex.

“An accurate description of the suspect, along with the last known direction of the suspect, were circulated. The suspect was seen on Hunters Way and immediately started to run when he saw the officers,” said Marshall Security spokesperson Tyrone Powell.

A short while later, the suspect was apprehended and searched.

“An LED flood light was found in his bag which officers discovered was stolen from the complex,” added Powell.

The Greenwood Park SAPS were contacted and arrived at the scene a short while later and transported the suspect to the Greenwood Park SAPS. The suspect will face charges of theft, attempted theft and trespassing.
