As u/ooglebird correctly points out, the song was written by Fraternity of Man. Agree as well that Little Feat’s cover is outstanding. Somehow this tune came up today, I haven’t thought of it in many years. Still hilarious. Came up the first time in cinema in the classic Easy Rider (Jack Nicholson and Peter Fonda) around 1968-69. I was a kid, the Summer of Love was a real thing.
I think that was the third album I ever bought, I was about 11 years old and I had just seen the movie when it came out, my teenage "babysitter" took me to see it,lol! And it was a double feature, the other movie was Alice's Restaurant.
The movie Easy Rider made this song popular. I worked with a guy back in the day who was a teenager in the 60’s in LA and when I said Bogart in a sentence he said “that’s not a word”. Then he said he never saw Easy Rider”. I was stunned and amazed.
Eh, my dad was born in ‘52, mom in ‘56 and neither of them have seen it or were big on the hippie stuff. There’s a reason it was called a counter culture, they were bucking mainstream society
Worst thing to happen to LA radio was losing that pair. They were fantastic and infinitely better than any LA morning radio now. Just sad how obnoxious most morning radio is now.
I wasn't a big fan of theirs, but they are miles ahead of the crap now, especially the KLOS stuff now. I actually quite enjoyed Mark (I think it was Mark) when he was solo on 100.3 with Andy Chandley helping out. I really enjoyed the guest he'd have once a week or so who broke down songs (his one on Crazy Train was outstanding) and he seemed like a good dude on the radio. It didn't help Mark and Brian that I preferred KROQ music at that time, too. That said, I respected what they were doing and trying to make it fun without acting totally superior all the time while simultaneously relying on lowest common denominator humor like today's morning DJs. Kevin and Bean did a great job of balancing sophomoric and intellectual without allowing everyone to have fun.
Agree to disagree but happy to respect your opinion on M & B.

Little Feat song. Best version is on their live album Waiting For Columbus

It's by Fraternity of Man, great band.

We fold this one in to Willin’ in my band in a similar way to Little Feat, it’s a fun break and fits well
Kevin and Bean, KROQ. Opened and closed Friday mornings with this song for many years. I miss those days

Mark and Brian have entered the chat

I had the eight track.
Born in 62, this was the first rock album I ever bought, probably when I was 9-10. Still have it.
Hey! I’m 1962 as well!
