Hello forum,
I am trying to plan a trip in March 2024 for family coming from Ireland. We want to rent a house in the Florida Keys and we have heard great things about Key Largo. We will need 5 bedrooms. Are there any local companies we can rent from? Are there areas we can get to by foot? Are taxi/ubers readily available in the Key Largo area?

It’s very hard to get around The Keys outside of Old Town Key West without a car. I would really recommend renting one. I also wouldn’t limit my search to just Key Largo. Both Islamorada and Marathon are also good locations to explore the Upper and Middle Keys. If you want a very walkable location, Old Town Key West is the best.
March is peak season here, so it’s good that you’re looking well in advance.

394 helpful votes As this is unincorporated Monroe County, there is a minimum 28 day rental in effect. I know of condos zoned differently (Ocean Point, Kawama) where you can stay shorter periods. In my neighborhood, there are a handful of illegal rentals who are regularly fined. One question you will want to ask in looking for a house is if it is indeed a legal rental. If it’s not, you could lose your deposit by an unscrupulous owner & would have recourse.
Barefeetrentals is a legitimate rental firm. Moonbay Key Largo Vacation Rentals is another (but condos at Moonbay). Mariners Club Key Largo is very nice and has homes for rent.
