Here it is the THICKEST Fate Servant ever.
Let's be real Fate (almost) NEVER gives a damn shit about Historical Accuracy, the historical or mythological stuff is just an excuse to come up with cool powers for their characters and half of the time massive tits on screen, so I don't usually care and neither should anyone unless shit's too boring or bland (Boudica), this franchise is moved by the Rule of Cool and Rule of Horny 80% of the time.
But occasionally they come up with something so absurd and fucking bonkers that you keep wondering what the hell they were smoking in the writing room and that's the kind of shit I am here for.
And that's Ivan in a nutshell, coming from Higashide Yuuichirou and the twisted mind of Nasu Kinoko and designed by danciao this is Ivan the Thunder Emperor.
Long story short this Ivan is from a Lostbelt, basically a world so far from the usual that it isn't even an alternative reality anymore and was just deleted from existence, but they're back because plot and so we met this man's Russia, a world where most of humanity died and the remaining ones on Russia were forced into being fused with magical beasts to survive, everyone are like wolves but Ivan here being fused with a prehistorical magical mammoth and I couldn't be happier.
We spend like most of the chapter hanging around this miserable land and every time we either meet the Oprichniki under his control or see him on the shadows, but much is made out of how powerful Ivan is, and his reveal is saved to the climax, but I'll just say it NOTHING left anyone ready to see this.
He looks monstrous, he's like 5 meter tall, his face is hidden in darkness, his body is thick and made out of a stone like material, he looks like ice brought into life which is fitting for the frozen wasteland that is Russia in Lostbelt 1, and there's a magic core on his chest, he almost looks like a Golem, and as you level him up his body keeps changing and glowing on electrical energy which just looks really cool, also yes he's wearing almost nothing and I wouldn't have it any other way.
But I LOVE the design of his Mammoth form, Mountain Sized Kanjis with Mountains on their backs is a fucking sick design trope, and I remember seeing him for the first time on the game and my reaction being "LET'S FUCKING GO".
So anyway I love him, that's all.
Imo a lot of the complaints come more because if the depictions are loosely respectful or not, no one likes Wu Zetian depiction because she is a practically a naked child and same deal goes with Jack the Ripper.
Hardly no one complains about say Lion Thomas Edison and Fat Caesar because they are fun takes compared to China's only Female Emperor (not Empress, Emperor) who is a straight up naked child.

That's fair, but personally I just feel REALLY upset when it is something uninteresting or a wasted potential, it's the same opinion I have towards like Comic Book movies or shows making changes to characters, so long as it makes for an interesting story I don't give a damn, same with Historical movies or such, the biggest crime a story can have is be uninteresting, and I'll judge Story before History.
But yeah I'd lie if Wu or Jack don't piss me off a bit, mainly Jack cause nobody gives a shit about Wu.
It's actually funny, people were cheering in happiness when Jack got a costume that had pants but a while ago when Wu was aged up a bit almost nobody gave one or two shits, it was literally a "Well, that just happened" moment.
Because the truth is....FGO Wu is a bottom tier character who debuted in one of the worst chapters of the game and outside of porn and people complaining on the internet almost nobody cares about her.
Plus that Summer was stacked with infinitely more popular girls, this girl was set up for defeat.
Here's the thing, she is wasted potential lol.
She first was a concubine then she became Empress (but retained the title of Emperor) being considered a legitimate ruler under her rule China grew in size and became a great power in what was akin to a Golden Age in a period where the Tang dynasty was at it's peak to the point many historians argue that she ruled China even earlier through her husband.
She was also pretty damn brutal yet efficient in her governing but still caused major changes in Chinese society, she was initially viewed as a bad for well being a woman yet the (general) view is that she was indeed a pretty remarkable Emperor though depictions pin-ball on making her bad actions even worse or try to make her image look good.
To turn into this rather quite important figure into a child is just disrespectful and a major waste of potential, imagine if they made Alexander, Augustus or Genghis Khan a naked child, you can have so many diferent things you can do and you turn them into a barely dressed child, you could do anything! And you turn them into a fucking bratty kid, that's just a major let-down.
Her personality is literally just "Bratty Loli" this is just sad, they didn't even try to do shit with her, it truly just feels they had 0 respect with her.
Age-ing her up does literal jackshit when her whole thing is being a child, and her design is just pretty dog-shit for someone that was a emperor, she is incredibly wasted potential for someone that ushered a golden age at her country being noted for being shrewd and brutal.
Yes, but I could say the same thing for plenty or historical characters or figures on many stuff, what I was talking about is what she'd over to Fate specifically.
I'll go back to Jack for a moment, because what pisses me off about Jack is that they did everything right but fucked it up with a shit design, Jack has a well designed power set, a well designed concept and plenty of other stuff, but the shit design fucked it up, Jack could've been the best Assassin in Fate but instead she is porn bait.
FGO Wu Zetian on how she's written doesn't offer jack shit, I won't judge her based on what she could've been by historical standards, I'll judge her by the character they made and what thet made is fucking dogshit, I won't defend her in any meaningful way because at the end she's a trash tier character, her skills aren't interesting, her character isn't interesting, she isn't interesting, literally everything she has had already been made before and better with characters like Carmilla and Semiramis, she's a Shitty Servant with Shitty skills and a Shitty Character.
Ivan's design does have many historical accurate details. Like his thunders, his original Russian (Грозный) title is not "Terrible", but literally Thunderous or in a figurative sense Formidable or Threatening. His crown, scepter, cloak also are accurate

Idk about Japanese, but Thunderous is just literal translation of his title The word Грозный either comes from thunder(гроза) or threaten(грозить/угрожать).
Historical accuracy really shouldn’t matter too much when the whole concept of Lostbelts is that they’re cataclysmic dead end timelines pruned out of existence. Proper human history (main timeline and closer to our own) Ivan was basically the same as our own, except maybe he dabbled and associated with magecraft a bit, though nothing ever came from it. A sudden Ice Age had to occur for Lostbelt Ivan to take the initiative to turn himself into this.

Somewhat. Despite how complex he looks, he's actually very simple. Not that many small nitty gritty details that you have to pay attention, just spikes on feet, spikes on arms, and more defined alien musculature along with horns.
TBF, it really was a completely different history. A meteor crashed into earth sending it into a second ice age, so Ivan the terrible decided to consult mages to combine and turn everyone into furries, including himself.
Only in Fate can you say that you can fight a half-man, half-giant mammoth version of Ivan the Terrible alongside an alternate universe, genderbent Musashi Miyamoto who channels the power of zero, a berserk cat girl Atalanta, Princess Anastasia using Viy as a familiar, and Beowulf, while riding a giant golem modeled after the biblical Adam, molded from the minotaur's labyrinth and using Avicebron as its core, all while Antonio Salieri rocks out to Mozart's Dies Irae on piano.
Now THIS is the kind of character design that I like to see in Fate.

To be fair he's fairly accurate(besides mammoth part). His crown, sceptrer, cloak are accurate. Having lighting powers also makes sense as his title with literal translation would be Thunderous(the Terrible is intentionally bad translation).
The most inaccurate part is "Thunderous emperor". He wasn't an emperor, but the "Sovereign, Grand Duke of Moscow and All Rus". Piotr 1 was the first "Emperor and Autocrat of All Russia"

IIRC, the Grail summons the Legends in the form according to the story they're associated with. Their appearances are affected by how humanity perceives them. This explains why they can take different forms, and be summoned into different classes each time, and why non-historical characters are also included.
