Investigators Seize Boat That Killed 15-Year-Old Florida Girl in Biscayne Bay

Florida authorities have located and seized the boat that struck and killed a teenager who was waterskiiing in Biscayne Bay over the weekend.

The owner of the boat is said to be cooperating with the investigation, but the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) did not say if the owner was driving or in the boat at the time it hit 15-year-old Ella Adler.

“I am pleased to report that we have a vessel in custody that matches the description given by witnesses and the investigation is ongoing,” said FWC Chairman Rodney Barreto. As a father and grandfather, my heart is broken for the Adler family. Ella’s death is devastating for her family, friends and the community at large. The FWC and our partner law enforcement agencies will not stop until we have all the answers and the case is solved.”

As CrimeOnline reported, Adler was on wakeboard being towed by another boat on Saturday when she fell off. She was in the water wearing a lifejacket with her board attached to her foot when the second boat hit her and did not stop, continuing west from Nixon Beach.

The FWC did not say if the boat’s driver was aware they hit the girl.

The boat was towed from a Coral Gables home on Tuesday, WFOR reported. Adler’s family issued a statement through their attorney and said that First Lady Jill Biden had paid a call to their home.

“The world lost a star this weekend,” the satatement said. “Ella was beautiful and shined brightly. In her 15 years, she gave us more light than we could have ever dreamed. While we cope with this unspeakable tragedy, we ask the public to give us our privacy as we mourn.”

Adler was a student at Ransom Everglades High School and a dancer who had performed with the Miami City Ballet.
