There is currently no official synopsis available for the upcoming sequel, but it appears that a tournament similar to those in the games is on the horizon. Following the events of the first instalment, Cole Young’s primary objective is to gather other fighters to kickstart the tournament.

Johnny Cage, portrayed by The Boys actor Karl Urban, is set to be one of Cole’s recruits, as hinted at in Mortal Kombat’s post-credits scene. The sequel may focus on Cole’s quest to find Johnny Cage, with Adeline Rudolph’s Kitana also potentially joining his team, armed with her iconic bladed fans.

Could Cole, Johnny, Kitana, and other Earthrealm heroes face off against the franchise’s main antagonist, Shao Kahn, in Mortal Kombat 2? It’s a possibility, especially with Martyn Ford cast as the tyrannical ruler of Outworld, complete with his infamous ‘Wrath Hammer.’

Additionally, there are rumours that Mortal Kombat 2 will feature scenes set in Netherrealm, the franchise’s equivalent of Hell. This speculation stems from a photo shared by producer Todd Garner, showcasing a red-lit stone floor that fans believe represents a Netherrealm location.
