First trailer for Wicked movie has just dropped

The trailer for the highly-anticipated movie musical Wicked has finally arrived.

A new trailer for the hotly anticipated musical movie adaptation of Wicked has been released, giving fans a closer look at Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the lead roles.

The two Grammy Award winning stars play the popular Glinda (Grande) and outcast Elphaba (Erivo) respectively in the retelling for the screen of the Broadway musical of the same name - which, in turn, is inspired by the book by Gregory Maguire.

Check out the trailer here:

The tale of Wicked looks on the origin story of the two powerful witches and will be split into two parts, with the first half rolling into cinemas this November.

The newly-released trailer sees the two young characters meeting for the first time as students at Shiz University in the fantastical Land of Oz.

Despite being from different backgrounds, the two forge an unlikely friendship that would steer the course of their lives and we see them grow closer until a chance encounter with The Wizard of Oz (portrayed by Jeff Goldblum) changes everything and upends the two women's bond.

Those who are familiar with the OG Oz fable know all too well where this prequel directed by Jon M.Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights) leads to - and the trailer offers a sinister glimpse of the different paths Glinda and Elphaba eventually take.

While Glinda with a penchant for everything pink gets a taste of power and wants more, the green-skinned Elphaba vows to remain true to herself and those around her.

The film also stars Everything Everywhere All At Once's Michelle Yeoh as Shiz University's headmistress Madame Morrible, while Bridgerton's Jonathan Bailey stars as Fiyero, a roguish and carefree prince, Tony nominee Ethan Slater as Boq, an altruistic Munchkin student, and Marissa Bode making her feature-film debut as Nessarose, Elphaba's younger sister.

Emmy nominee Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and Bronwyn James (Harlots) also star as Pfannee and ShenShen, two conniving compatriots of Glinda, while Tony nominee Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman) features as Miss Coddle, a new character created for the film.

This isn't the first time fans have been given a glimpse of the movie - with Chu having previously shared a few images of Grande and Erivo in their roles.

Part Two will delve into the rivalry between Glinda the Good and Elphaba aka the Wicked Witch of the West, and will arrive in cinemas one year from the release of Part One.

The follow-up is currently scheduled to premiere on November 28, 2025.

Wicked: Part One will be released in UK cinemas on November 28, with Part Two releasing on November 28, 2025.
