NSW Champion of Champions Singles Heats Up! Women’s Finalists Determined, Men’s Semifinals Set
The Champion of Club Champions Singles continued today, with finalists for the women’s competition and semi-finalists for the men’s competition determined.
Kicking off the morning were the women’s quarterfinals, where players battled for a spot in the afternoon semifinals. The stand-out fixture was between Kate Walker (Taren Point) and Christine McGarrity (Merimbula). Walker trailed for the majority of the contest before overcoming her opponent 25-24.
In other results Natasha van Eldik (Raymond Terrace) proved too good for Warilla’s Vicki Turner 25-5, Kay Moran (Figtree) defeated Sherilee Stewart (West Tamworth) 25-15, and on the Bowls NSW live streaming rink it was a win for St Johns Park superstar Dawn Hayman, 25-13 over Mei Wan Lam (Mount Lewis).
In the first women’s semifinal, Kate Walker (Taren Point) faced a formidable Dawn Hayman (St Johns Park), resulting in a 25-17 victory to Hayman despite a spirited comeback attempt by the Taren Point ace.
In the other semifinal, Natasha van Eldik (Raymond Terrace) dominated against Kay Moran (Figtree), securing a convincing 25-11 win after a close start to the game.
The men’s round of 16 matches took place in the morning, with players vying for a spot in the quarterfinals. The remaining field was a diverse mix of perennial State champions, as well as those competing at this level for the first time.
Carl Healey (Cabramatta) and Daniel Hill (Charlestown) scored the most impressive wins in the morning session, as they recorded 25-11 wins over Jack McShane (Merrylands) and Jeremy Henry (Warilla) respectively.
NSW Keno Blues representatives David Ferguson (St Johns Park), Mason Lewis (Engadine) and Peter Taylor (Alstonville) also progressed to the final eight, along with Shane Gibbon (Halekulani), Harley McDonald (Taren Point), and crowd favourite Linden de Jong from Mosman Bowling Club.
It was a blockbuster encounter on the Bowls NSW live stream between former Central Coast representative allies Harley McDonald (Taren Point) and Shane Gibbin (Halekulani). A strong second half performance was enough for McDonald to register a 25-22 win.
In other quarter-final fixtures Mason Lewis (Engadine) led throughout in his 25-12 victory over Charlestown’s Daniel Hill, it was a similar story on the adjoining rink with Peter Taylor (Alstonville) accounting for Linden de Jong (Mosman) 25-13, and current Jackeroo Carl Healey (Cabramatta) proved victorious in a titanic struggle with fellow Zone 12 bowler David Ferguson (St Johns Park) 25-22.
The men’s semifinals will feature Peter Taylor (Alstonville) against Harley McDonald (Endagine), and Carl Healey (Cabramatta) will do battle against NSW teammate Mason Lewis (Engadine), scheduled for 9.15am tomorrow.
Simultaneously, the women’s final between Dawn Hayman (St Johns Park) and Natasha van Eldik (Raymond Terrace) will be live-streamed on the Bowls NSW Facebook and YouTube channels.
In the afternoon, the men’s final will commence at 12.45 pm and will also be available for viewing on the Bowls NSW Facebook and YouTube channels.
