Walgreens sucks. Wegmans Pharmacy is awesome and they're very pleasant to customers

Success/Celebration

Hey. Longtime user of Walgreens for filling all my scripts.

Recently learned my Walgreens only orders meds that are out of stock only once a week. So if you drop off your ADHD med script and they're outta stock, you gotta wait till their ordering day for them to order.

So if you drop your script off Thursday, for example, and they're outta stock, & they're order placement day is Wednesday, it will sit there for 6 days till they reorder. Then you gotta wait till order comes in. Wasted time and poor you is outta meds and suffering.

Plus they're typically not very customer-focused and not very polite.

Infuriated by their lack of support, tried my local Wegmans Pharmacy and what. Difference.

For example, I dropped off my script noontime Thursday, was outta stock, they ordered it THAT DAY, came in Friday, Hallelujah.

And they're super nice. And not crowded either. Plus their grocery store is absolutely gorgeous and their Store Brand things like cleaning supplies are top notch.

Just sharing my joy.

I've honestly never had an issue with Walgreens, and I've been using them for over a decade. While they did have a delay on my meds, it was a small delay (doctor sent script over Friday, they were ready on Monday). I still had meds to get me through so it wasn't a big deal. I even went 2 weeks ago to pick meds up and asked about switching generic manufacturers. The pharmacist was able to fill with a different manufacturer while I was there.

They can definitely do better in their customer service department though. I've worked customer service jobs for years and am always nice and respectful towards others, but there's always one person at the pharmacy who doesn't smile or has a tone when talking to you. But I've never been disrespected or talked down to.

As an aside, I miss Wegmans. One of my go-tos when I lived in PA. The closest one to me now is 3 hours away. 🥲

One great thing about Walgreens is that their toll free customer service line is open 24/7. They helped me often but cant really do what the pharmacists do but they're always helpful and never is there any wait.

Totally get your frustration with Walgreens. Wegmans sounds like a dream, honestly. Fast service and friendly staff make all the difference, especially when it comes to something as important as meds. Plus, getting to browse a gorgeous grocery store while you wait? Win-win! Thanks for sharing your experience, might just switch to Wegmans myself!

Also Walgreens keeps increasing prices on everything. And they now won't deliver any meds for free anymore, 2nd day delivery was always free. Now they charge 3.99. Screw them. They gotta nickel and dime you to death.

CVS is worse! Mom and pop pharmacies are the fucking BEST!

Walgreens does suck. I left last year when they couldn't fill my albuterol prescription. I need that to breathe. Just seems like they forgot how to be a pharmacy and now they're an overpriced chain bodega-wannabe.

One time I called in a script and they said they had to order it. Okay fine. After a few days, I hadn’t heard so I called and the kid was like oh we don’t have it we have to order it. I was like “…you guys told me you ordered it 3 days ago..” he didn’t know what to say so he ordered it. A couple more days go by. I call again. The guy goes “oh yeah we got it in yesterday.” Me: “….can ya fill it…?” Like I have to BABYSIT you to do every step of your job. It was unreal. And they would randomly close because of being short staffed and I would go in to get my nanas insulin when she was out and I was just shit out of luck. It’s a nightmare there

Money grubbers and impolite. Agree

Walgreens is THE WORST. I lost my cool with them so many times. I just switched to Hannaford and I’m SHOCKED by the difference. Never going back to Walgreens ever again

I’ve used cvs since forever and I switched to Walgreens this year and oh my! I thought it couldn’t POSSIBLY get worse… WRONG

In my experience, drugstore chains that rely on pharmacy for a large chunk of their revenue often cut corners and overwork their staff. I’ve never been to a CVS or Walgreens where the pharmacy staff weren’t stretched to their breaking point. And god help you if they need a prior authorization.

Grocery chains with a reputation for stellar customer service to uphold, on the other hand, can’t do that, because a negative experience at their pharmacy reflects poorly on the whole business. My only experience with prior authorizations at Costco and Publix has been them telling me after the fact, because they went ahead and took care of it.

This is not true. If you bring a prescription to Walgreens and they are out of stock, they order it. The issue with ADHD meds is there is nothing pharmacist can order, because they are out of stock. Therefore most pharmacies across the country receive whatever the pharmaceutical companies send them. It's a nightmare.

I'm glad you found a pharmacy you like, however. Wegmans is great.

I beg to differ. My Walgreens only orders once a week.

u/DarthSnarker avatar

I find that very hard to believe. So my husband who takes blood thinners is SOL until they order it a week later?

u/Less_Campaign_6956 avatar

Clarification. my Walgreens orders scheduled meds once a week. Not sure what their policy is for non scheduled meds. It may be the same or different. Most ADHD meds schedule 2. Trying to help ADHD med folks here.
