Never played a Silente Hill game before. What should I expect from SH2 Remake?

Question

I'm interested in playing the remake, but I really don't know what I should be expecting from the game. Is James a cool character like Leon or is he more of Ethan Winters from RE7/8?

Can’t say much without major spoilers, but he’s not a hero, or a good guy. He’s just a regular man who’s gone through some shit

Hmmm, I see. So, he's more of a Playstation protagonist like Joel or Kratos?

I’d say more akin to Joel for sure But the whole story of SH2 is incredible. Had me thinking about it for days afterwards. If the remake is anything like the original we r in for a great

Edited

Not exactly like Kratos. More like a crossing of Duke Nukem, the Master Chief and Akuma (Street Fighter 6, the savage one, not the original faggy ass version).

Be sure to keep the "Angela" character always in the party, she's more like a black mage type and her spells are really useful in the late game. Avoid wasting time with Laura, she pretty lame, her limit break is cool but that's pretty much it. Also when she (spoiler alert) dies you're gonna lose the gear and the materia.

Seriously though, I checked your profile and looks like you straight up posted an ending of SH2 somewhere else.

OP likely played the game already. He posted one of the endings of SH2 in another sub a while ago.

I would strongly consider playing the original on PC if possible. There's a great fan mod that modernizes and improves the original game while keeping its character in tact. I have concerns about the development team behind the remake given some of their history with handling the exact subjects and themes which Silent Hill 2 covers. I feel that the twists the story takes would best be experienced in the original. It walks a very fine line between covering very dark topics and does so with tact and respect rarely seen in horror games. There's a reason it is so highly regarded and I wouldn't want anyone's experience with the original story to be spoiled by the remake failing to live up to the original games legacy.

James is more like Resident Evil 7 Ethan Winters. He's layered and suffering, empathetic, but he's not supposed to be likeable. He's not Harry or Heather. It's a different kind of unique story.

At least you’re not like those folks who watch playthroughs and suddenly they’re experts on the game. Truly hope you have a great experience when it comes out. It’s a whole ass culture moment

Sunderland is catastrophically depressed. He might be in a town of monsters, or mad, or both. Poor dude.
