Celtic injury update, team news and Predicted XI for crucial Hearts clash

Celtic host Hearts in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday knowing victory would take them a big step closer towards winning the league title.

The Bhoys have just four league games remaining and currently sit three points ahead of second-placed Rangers, who also visit Celtic Park next week.

Hearts have had the better of this fixture this season, winning in the last two meetings between the sides home and away, so nothing can be taken for granted.

Thankfully, Brendan Rodgers has given his squad a clean bill of health after Daizen Maeda recovered early from a hamstring injury to rejoin group training this week. It’s confirmed he will be part of the match squad this weekend.

What will the manager’s team look like? Here’s our best go at today’s eleven.

Potential Celtic team vs Hearts

Joe Hart will be between the sticks again, marshalling a defence that will include Greg Taylor and Alistair Johnston on the flanks.

There’s been a lot of talk about Celtic’s defensive weakness of late but Liam Scales is still likely to get the nod over Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke. If Scales was to be taken out of the team it would’ve happened before now – Rodgers has his settled defence for the trophy push.

Cameron Carter-Vickers will be tasked with leading the defensive line through potential pressure from Lawrence Shankland and Hearts.

Callum McGregor recovering well

In midfield, there have been question marks about Callum McGregor’s fitness but Rodgers indicated he is looking much better in training this week which bodes well for a starting spot.

Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley remain the strongest picks alongside the captain. They’ll need to be at their creative best to get at a confident away side.

Although Maeda has returned to squad contention, it’s unlikely he’ll be dropped in from the start against Hearts – especially with the derby just around the corner.

We’ve got a better chance of once again seeing James Forrest start, with Nicolas Kuhn on the opposite wing. Maeda can come into the match in the second half.

Kyogo Furuhashi is still the man to get the nod in attack and Adam Idah can disrupt Hearts after the interval if needed.

Your Predicted XI in full is: Hart, Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Taylor, McGregor, O’Riley, Hatate, Kuhn, Forrest, Kyogo.
