This mountain cottage seems to rise up from the ground, where it finds space on the western slope of Pomezní hřeben, among the Giant Mountains in the Czech Republic, becoming a getaway for a multigenerational family. Here, the building created by the creatives at ADR is a structure keeping with the aesthetics and functionality of the local architecture, nestled in an open, barrier-free national park. At the same time, Haj Cottage responds to the needs of contemporary life and the demands of fluid living, with design playing a leading role. The interior was conceived by the designers at Forma Fatal, who were adept at making modern and high-altitude styles coexist under one roof.
The façades of the villa are mainly clad in larch wood, while the base is made in a stone typical to the region. The house consists of one floor and an attic, resulting from two interlocking volumes. "The main mass is rectangular, measuring about 15 x 10 meters and is capped by a gabled roof," the architects add. The first floor includes a kitchen, dining room and relaxation areas, while the garage is located on the opposite end. The attic, on the other hand, is an area designated for more intimate living: there, beyond a ramped staircase, we find three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a separate toilet. The interiors are the sum of materials with different natures: solid wood, black laminated steel, perforated sheet metal, and cement screed. Throughout the property, laminated sheets are used as a leitmotif repeated among the rooms: they connect the bookcase with the fireplace, take center stage in the kitchen, and unite the living space between the hallway and staircase. Wood, on the other hand, punctuates the domestic promenade and defines the body of custom-designed furniture.
Haj Cottage is therefore the story of a place built to accommodate the human dimension of relationships. Its spaces synthesize a shared living and become a property to be frequented far from the chaos of daily life. The structure, suspended between snow (in winter) and mountain greenery (in summer), is a destination for fun and relaxation. Here, finding yourself in a high-altitude landscape is an activity to be enjoyed.
