it's really not that hard even for them.
even when they never contacted other species you can imagine that during some inner war time they accidentally discovered the concept and great advantage of false information strategy (perhaps through someone's broken brain) then they develop devices that can hide or transform their brain wave to utilize it.
so when they made contact with earth they will be only like "wow, you are natural war beings, gotta wipe you out quick man" and would not make further surprise about it.
