Beautiful, well-maintained, movie theater in my town with excellent projector and sound, with an endowment to keep it going even as it inevitably loses money.

Edited

If it shows indie, foreign, and classic films, as as well as new releases, I'm in.

I'm adding REALLY NICE SEATS. Also adding maybe a lecture series with people who worked on the films and/or historians.

And "Man Getting Hit by Football".

The ball! His groin! It works on so many levels!

I’m sorry, did something crawl into your throat and die?

It didn’t die!

I think if I won the lottery this would honestly be how I stay busy. Opening up a nice movie theater, maybe even a franchise one and just kind of being the sometimes present owner/manager who gives random bonuses and does a little of everything. Maybe one day I help run the front snack stand, another Im in the projector room, or maybe Im just there to watch a movie. I could pay well and maybe offer some other incentives like helping pay for schooling.

My dream is retire early, move to a small-ish town, open a coffee shop/book store in the center of town and run community events in it (tabletop game nights, chess tournaments, local cause fundraisers, maybe hobby classes, whatever), and to have enough cash to subsidize it all and foster a more thriving community. Stuff like giving free books to students who get good grades, or a book exchange program, or whatever. Also substitute teach and have a few acres outside of town with some little farm animals.

I figure I can do that with $50m, if you’re offering!

u/Thumpkuss avatar

You win. That sounds so cozy and wholesome.

lol, I made a vision board last night and this is one of my biggest hopes on it

So you want to live out Stardew Valley for realsies?

No way, it’s like you took my dream out of my head and put it on Reddit!

I hope you find a way to make this a reality!

Let me work there if you get the 50 mil. It sounds amazing

My only beef is giving books to kids with good grades, please help the ones with bad grades, too! They need it the most!

I can tell this guy is under 40. As soon as he hits 40 he's going to delete all of the things that involve interacting with other people, and focus on the solitude and quiet of being alone.

Sounds great.

u/mehatch avatar

Honestly this is a beautiful dream. I hope you can make it happen.

I’ve been wondering if I had lottery money such as in the $50m range if it is possible to build a town in the middle of nowhere, build up shops and other self sustaining resources and bring in the unemployed folks who are willing to work to make a life there. All shops and resources producers are carefully planned to be self sustaining and benefit the town.

Prob needs closer to $300m though.

u/Decent_Emu_7387 avatar

You’d need some industry. Like on a main highway, near mines or other resources, timber. Something to keep cash flow

Sex 2

u/Thumpkuss avatar

Dude, what!!! why am I more intrigued by the second coming of sex than the second coming of christ.

u/NocturnalPharoh avatar

Christ already came?

u/droideka_bot69 avatar

That depends on what religion you believe in. Some think he's already came, others think he has yet to come and done think he has never came nor will he ever.

And yet others think he's edging.

An accessible housing development that isn't seniors only. Where I live, it's impossible to find housing that accommodates those with disabilities and isn't in a seniors only community. Having a community designed specifically to be accessible that accommodates all ages would be wonderful. It would have a pool with a chair transfer lift and regular aquatic physical therapy and exercise classes, a wheelchair accessible clubhouse, playground, and walking paths, and wider doors without bumpy thresholds.

As someone with a disabled wife whom became disabled at age 32 I love you so much right now

My partner is 48 now so we're slowly approaching the 55+ threshold, but I agree. People need these in their 20s, 30s, and 40s as well!

And you'd burn through all the money have to shut down after a few months. The building alone would be a ton.

It would most likely weigh several tons.

I create a irrevocable trust, I endow said living trust with the that $50,000,000 I name the trust itself as beneficiary, I in turn then hire a trustee to manage this irrevocable trust, with myself and my family as consultants and advisors, paying us a comfy yearly salary of around $70,000 a year. the prompt only states that we have to spend the money on creating something, yes? well that is my answer, If I had $50,000,000 today, I would spend it creating generational wealth that would see multiple generations taken care of for the foreseeable future.

I was going to say I would create a giant trust fund.

A million dollar safe storage for my 49 million dollars

You'll do five either trying to flip 50 $1 million houses or 100 500k houses than one 50 million house. The market is simply too picky and small at that end of the pond.

A state-of-the-art shelter for the homeless that's more than three hots and a cot, but with social work, rehab, and programs designed to foster mainstreaming.

Really depends on how many homeless they want to shelter and rehab. A single homeless person? Tens? Yeah. Hundreds/Thousands? Nah.

More replies

Great idea. Giving drug addicts and the homeless a place to rehabilitate and gain a sense of purpose, to then return to society. Start with one, record the data. Then replicate the process in other locations that need. In time hopefully it becomes the norm and part of a governments budget, similar to the prison system.
