    It's Friday May 17th

Good morning friends. Well the menfolk are up and at 'em, LOL!! Greg arrived last night. I was so confused yesterday at the dentist's office. I thought they were working on the bottom left tooth, was told they were working on the bottom right. Well why didn't they do both on the left side on Tuesday, they did do both. OH!! I have an appointment in October for the bottom left, which they cancelled. Now that tooth has had a root canal done a long time ago, dentist assured me I wouldn't feel a thing, so no freezing. He drilled, put a post in, filled it back up and done. He was right, I didn't feel a thing but I was nervous. All done!! WOW that didn't take long at all. Half hour and I was out of there.

The lawn tractor went to the garage yesterday. Les drove it, I drove the car there so he wouldn't have to walk back. He had used the push mower and he was tired. Met a friend in town, he owns a snow/grass business, when he came to town, he sent his son and Brandon finished what Les couldn't get to.

After the menfolk leave, not sure what I am going to do. Tomorrow there are a bunch of garage sales I may check out, lol.

    Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning Monique and those who follow.

Wow, things are busy at your house. Glad the dental stuff is over until Oct!

Mike and I went to the long armers and picked up the flannel quilt. I started the binding, bent 1 needle. Got it on, pulled over, but several spots didn't catch on the machine. boo hiss. I marked them all and I'm debating, just taking a needle and thread and stitching those little spots down by hand or just going back over with the machine.

I have to get dressed early this morning, the power washers are coming this morning at 8. What was I thinking? I hope they will take care around the azealas and my nandina.

I guess I'd better get started! Prayers for those in need and prayers of thanksgiving for all of our many blessings.

I usually check the other side to make sure the binding got caught and if it didn't then I re-stitch that area. A little more stitching on a quilt....no problem.

Claire, when I was checking the back, that's when I found all of the spots. I'm going to blame it on the navy binding and the darkness of the quilt. I was having a really hard time seeing what I was doing. Anyway, I've ripped several spots where the backing fabric folded back, marked all of the spots where it was just a little off and stitched them all down with the machine. Navy on navy flannel, I don't think anyone will see that there are 2 lines of stitching in parts of the binding. Finished is better than perfect.

I put a straight pin through the back of the binding and let it poke up to the front on the quilt. The pin gives me a mark to hit when sewing on the front.

Remove the pin before getting to that point and then re-pin again and let the pin poke up through the binding on the back.

    Morning all,

I've been up since 2 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. Doesn't matter if I go to bed later thinking I 'll be tired and fall right to sleep or try to go to bed earlier I' m awake in the middle of the night for hours at a time lately.

Yesterday I got some more hot pads assembled to the point where I add the insulbrite and backing. The insulbrite should be delivered today according to the tracking. I feels good to whittle down the scrap pile little by little. I have a dozen Christmas ones made. I have about 30 more templates so at some point I will make some more. I think I will change things up and do some embroidered towels.

Looks a bit overcast out there hopefully the sun will break through. Yesterday was a wet and drizzly day. Off to the kitchen for a cup of coffee and figure out what's for dinner tonight so I 'll wish everyone a good day.

I have a bag full of orphan blocks that I should get busy and make up into pot holders or hot pads. Now that I have a new table they might make a good runner...we will get them out and dream a little.

I took a sleep training course a while back and learned that I shouldn't go to bed until I feel sleepy...not just tired but actually sleepy. They also told us that it is more important to have a consistent wake up time than a consistent bedtime. When I was younger I could enjoy coffee after dinner. Not any more. I have to stop caffeine after my morning coffee since it can stay in your system for 12 hours.

Oh Monique...I hate going to the dentist. That post drilling sounds really scary.

Katrina, it really is frustrating when the machine misses a spot on the binding . I've had that happen too many times to count. But then, I do not do the hand stitching on the second run thru either.

Yesterday morning we went down to Oriental and looked at the table. what a surprise. It is truly beautiful. Light blonde Maple, matches the pine cubboards in color fabulously and for an older table, it is in great shape. Has a bench and three chairs. Made by Ramer Furniture from Amish country in Missouri. The chairs are in perfect condition and DH is going to refinish the top of the table at some point. He is researching whether to lightly sand and oil or put a poly surface. We will see, I will trust him. He is as excited about the way it looks as I am.

Today I will go grocery shopping. Just a few things I said and started a list. Quite a few as it turns out.

Neighbor came over on his way to the dump yesterday and had an air conditioner that DH salvaged from him to put in his workshop and an old windmill about 8 ft tall made of aluminum that is probably 60's era. It was broken in places and bent up where he shoved it into his truck. DH spent the afternoon cleaning it up and repairing it. It is pretty neat. I was thinking of where to put it and DH said he would probably offer it back to the neighbor now that it is pretty again. His father in law had put it in the yard when he bought the property back in the day. DH thought it might mean something to the wife as it was her fathers. We will see.

Did you all know that wadding up a piece of aluminum foil and wetting it will clean the corrosion off of metal like hubcaps, bike chrome, etc?

I started the FMQ on the quilt yesterday. Used up two bobbins and my arm is doing pretty well. I decided to just work about an hour and then let my arm rest.

DH will check the crab pots this morning. I'm hoping for a big batch.

The regulations on fishing are pretty stringent this year. They say you have to report every flounder or drum you catch. Now, I wonder how many people are going to do that??

I will have to try the aluminum wad to clean chrome. I have a vintage chrome and formica table. It does have a few defects but I love the yellow color and the drop leaf features 💛

Do you have to throw the flounder and drum back in if you catch them?

Well, now I'm not sure if these are the correct lengths but last year you could only keep drum that were 18-27 inches and flounder at 18 inches. Smaller or larger have to be put back. We are not sure if we have to report the ones we throw back. I will tell you that it has been rare to catch drum in that 18-27 inch space. Last year nearly all we caught were 17 1/2. One was 42. Flounders were all too small. Trout also have to be 18 inches but we usually get a few keepers there.

    Good morning,

I had good intentions to plant the geraniums in the front yard this morning. It may happen later today, if it stops raining. Our temps have climbed up dramatically in the past few days along with the humidity.

Yesterday I picked up 7 doz flowers, red & white geraniums, New Guinea impatiens, portulaccas. Home Depot has a sale every May long weekend for .98 /pot. They do really well in our soil and climate, so they grow and fill in the area nicely. It's also my way to decorate for Canada day. I picked up some groceries and we had hot dogs for lunch. We don't eat processed food a lot, but I was short on time. Hubby had follow up appt at doctor. His BP is well managed with meds, and other issues are stable for now, so we will see her in Sept unless something happens. The home purchase for my son was finalized yesterday, so he'll be moving in mid-July, it's an hour away for me to visit. He'll need to buy garden tools and tractor lawn mower. He was in a townhouse where all outdoor work was done. I know he doesn't even own a 6' ladder. He borrows my garden and power tools, etc, but that far away, it's not going to happen. I guess I know what I can buy for house-warming gift.

I should tackle the repairs to my friend's quilt before I load it.

Enjoy your day and long weekend.

Enjoy life and do what makes you happy. Everything else will follow.

Good morning. Storms last night were very fierce. No damage in my area, but the downtown area and town west of me had lots of damage, with some fatalities. I pray for those families. I did get most of my messiness cleaned up yesterday and also pressed and measured a large stack of fat quarters. Those have been added to the boxes from last month, since they weren't full.

After reading Jean's comment yesterday regarding letting a friend use my longarm, I think I will end up quilting it for her while teaching her how to do it. If she later decides she wants to rent time on a machine, there is a shop nearby I can refer her to. Thanks Jean for telling me about your experience. Sorry that happened to you.

Since schools are closed due to last night's weather, I may go visit the grands later. Hard to believe school is almost out for summer. I checked out the calendar for next year and school will start on August 8th. It keeps getting earlier every year.

Good Morning. Sugar will be in shortly demanding her morning treats. I slip her allergy pill into the treat and she’s been taking them without noticing for a few months.

It was a dreary rainy day yesterday. We traveled to the Verizon store to get Jeff’s phone set up. We were there so long we didn’t feel like even stopping for a late lunch/early dinner. I had just what we needed for a simple quick meal.

I don’t like the way the binding on the Seed Packet quilt looks on the back so I’m removing it and am restitching it with black thread. Jeff said it looked fine but it bugs me. So far I’ve redone two sides. I don’t like to cringe when I flip a quilt over.

I had the cutest video call from Jane yesterday. She talks with her hands now, jabbering the whole time. She can sing and then laughs like crazy. That little one has a lot to say. They found out she’s intolerant of cows’ milk so she’s on goat milk and goat cheese. We suspect she’s going to be an allergy kiddo. My grands both had to drink soy milk, yuk! There are a lot more options in milk nowadays. Kaytie has the worst allergies I’ve ever seen.

This is an especially bad year for allergies and ticks. Jeff and I have had at least 8-10 ticks each. I had a new one on my thigh this morning. There’s a reaction to tick bites called Alphagal (sp) that a lot of people are getting after a bite. My gf Janice has it and she can’t eat any beef or pork anymore. Our vet warned us to watch ourselves if we get tick bites. The first symptom can be anaphylactic shock. It can be detected with a blood test.

I guess I’ll go fix Sugar’s morning nibbles. Wishing everyone a great day. 🪡🧵

Oh shoot. I hate ticks. Just evil to have a critter drive right thru your skin to take up residence. Hoping hey settle back before we head to Table Rock in September. We have them here too and Hubs brings them home from fishing once in awhile and I end up with crawly nightmares after. I hate to even ask but what are seed ticks?

Good morning! It’s a really pretty day today, yesterday was rainy most of the day. We had to go into our serger class in a downpour. The class was supposed to be 3 hours long, it ended up being 4-1/2 hours long to cover all of the material. Our teacher was excellent, and very well organized, but we had one gal in the class using a vintage machine and pretty needy of the teacher’s attention. So class went slow, but we got through it! I tried stuff I will likely never use, but by changing all the settings on the machine to do so many things, I at least know how and why they are changed. And we sewed samples of each style of stitching, so we have a reference point to look at when we want to duplicate it. I bought a cording foot, think I will use that a lot! She even demoed inserting a zipper and made a little cosmetic bag using the cording foot. Wow, game changer! So I had to buy one of those!

I had leftover lunch from Wednesday to eat after I got home, and was plenty tired, so I vegged out after I ate.

Today I need to organize some costumes from our show last summer. Our show was nominated for best show by our Arts For Life organization, and will be part of the entertainment for the summer awards show, and they have to be in costume! 19 cast members will be participating! So I have to reassemble 19 costumes for that 3 minute performance. It isn’t until June 30, but they are going to gather and rehearse Saturday, and I need to get that organized. I will only see them twice between now and then. Nancy is going to meet me today to get started with the organization. We’re meeting for lunch then going to the church where we rehearse and store some of the costumes, I have the others in my garage. Need to pull and label.

Hope you have a great day!

Hubs took off around midnight for his weekend fishing trip. Hope he's got tick repellent. I've got spare time this weekend to work on some quilting without interruption. I thought I might sneak off to the quilt museum tomorrow. As fate would have it, they're having their spring garage sale tomorrow. Fabric on closeout for $10 a pound. Nice. As I remember, they usually carry reproduction type fabrics which are my favorite. Might be cheaper to head to the casino than go to the Sale unsupervised. 😂

better get started doing something though. Days a wasting.

That is a lot of work for 3 minutes🤐.
Yesterday a lot got done but none of it was sewing, exercise, bush purchased, extra tile returned then a trip to Walmart for a couple of things. When we left we noticed there was some cardboard attached to the bottom front of the car, when I pulled it loose I noticed part of the car was hanging down wonky. We drove around to the auto dept. and they diagnosed the "skid cover" 🙄 had come loose and zip tied it in place as a temp fix. The dealership has ordered a replacement which should arrive today and shouldn't take long to install per the service dept. no appointment necessary.😒 I bet it will take forever ☹ and🤑. It is always something. After that I finished moving some edging blocks to enlarge a flower bed and planted the bush. I was bushed.😁
Before we go get that fixed we are going to a quilt show at the Shelby County, Al art's council. I put the location for Teresa and we may have lurkers that would be interested, too. One of DH's cousins has a quilt on display.😀

    Good morning all,

We are still cloudy today. Was pretty gloomy most of the day yesterday too. I got my injections yesterday morning and then took it easy the rest of the day. I probably should have gotten up every hour to walk a bit. By bedtime I was hurting so much I was using a cane to help me walk. Sleep was interrupted hourly and moving was difficult and painful. This morning I’m a lot better and but the braces on. I haven’t used them much because they start to get annoying after a while but they are helping somewhat today. I’m meeting Lori for coffee at 10:30. Dave has asked me to go to Menards to get some more block adhesive and bring it back before I go. I should have just enough time.

No other plans today except to no do a whole bunch but get up and moving throughout the day. Prayers for those in need and wishes for a great day to all.

      Well. Good morning friends.

Apparently my tub isn’t coming until the 18th. So the red sheet will have to wait.

Aaaaand, it’s raining today. So much for my gardening plans. I need to get the plants out of the garage and set them on the porch and give them some water. Or set them out in the rain. Just afraid someone will steal them.

A man came yesterday and offered to mow the lawn. I took him up on it. I don’t have my mower ready yet. I was going to have to finish with the weed eater. Anyway, he offered a price of twenty dollars….but he didn’t realize I wanted the whole yard done for both sides of the duplex. It never occurs to me think of them as separate and it doesn’t occur to neighbors to them of the duplex as just my house. I gave him forty, but only because I didn’t have any tens, or I’d have given him $30.

But the lawn has been mowed.

Moved the dining table and chairs yesterday and vacuumed the entire carpet in the dining room. Then moved the table back and ironed all the rest of the rainbow fabric.

Sat down last night to hand stitch something while watching season 2 of The Hardy Boys. Wasn’t working. This morning as I thought how I would stitch it on the machine, I realized I had the pieces put together wrong anyhow. Good thing I stopped.

I swear that the sewing and crafting part of my brain has turned off. These things come and go in long cycles with me. It’s akin to manic-depressive disorder, or so I imagine. I just can’t seem to get into manic mode about anything right now. Depressive is easier.

Had a long odd dream last night that felt like it harkened back to dream from some previous night. I went to visit some distant cousin from my father’s mother’s side of the family. Had a nice visit. The cousin mentioned that another cousin had something I might like to see or something like that. So, I set out on a long trip to visit that cousin. Turned out that I arrived while that cousin was having some big shindig, a gathering of family. And there was a place for people to pay for something else that some of the arriving families would go to and be turned away and directed to pay at another location. I wound up spending the night at this cousin’s house. The next day, while sitting around talking, I felt cold and put on what I thought was one of her shirts. Later it turned out to be her husband’s or some other man’s. I learned this in the kitchen when I took off the shirt and was looking for a place to leave it. There in the kitchen were several plastic containers, totes, which apparently were my luggage that I had brought into the house. There was something about a plastic shopping bag that had two ball shaped ceramic mugs from Wyoming. I thought they were something else but they morphed into the mugs. I put them in one of the containers. Then there was something about a cheap plastic can opener on the floor in a pile with some of my things. I didn’t recognize it and kept trying to get my cousin, who was saying I could take it, to tell me if it was originally mine or hers and she wouldn’t say. Just kept telling me to take it. But I have enough can openers at home and didn’t want it! While we were in the kitchen, where she was putting away a great big supply of food from the gathering, which apparently was over, I said, “I guess I ought to pay.” I was at the same time hungry and looking for something to eat but she wasn’t offering any of the stuff she was putting away. She said, “Yes, $200.” I guess that’s what each family had paid to cover the expenses of the gathering. Then she reached into the freezer portion of the fridge and pulled out a bag of ravioli but shook her head and said as she started to put it back, “This was out in the shed and I don’t know if it’s still good or was out there and there may have been a power loss and it could have thawed and spoiled.” As she put it back, there appeared a large bag of chicken wing parts in her hand as well that went into the freezer. The dream shifted and I was in the living room Sharing with the husband something about an invention or creation of mine and in my hand there appeared a green leather case with a flap and inside were some cards. One side of the case had a clear plastic window through which we could see the cards. The one on top had pictures of various of our family members holding or displaying their inventions or patents. Mine was there and I showed the husband. At the same time, I was desperately trying to remember the name of my cousin, and the name of the other cousin who sent me to this gathering. Couldn’t for the life of me come up with a name for either one. And the one at the gathering had no clue who I was from Adam. We had never met before. There were more scenes. A pond/lake outside that people were crossing. I sat on top of the wall ringing one end, contemplating getting in and crossing but not wanting to get my jeans wet. The lake in front of me was deep…but where others were going in there was a concrete shelf that turned to algae covered flat-ish rock and the water was shallow. A little black boy sat down beside me, and some of his family members beside him. For some reason the subject of singing came up and I said to him, “Sometimes I just feel like singing, so I do, loudly, even though it’s sometimes off key. Or most times more like.” I grinned at him and he nodded and smiled back. Then the scene shifted back into the house and I was packing to leave and found two paperback books on the table/nightstand beside my suitcase. One was missing the cover. But I thought it was an old book because I thought I saw a price of 65 cents on it. Two white boys came in while I was looking at the books. The older one, maybe 10 or 11, picked up the book with the missing cover and thumbed through it while telling me the other book was smutty and describing its contents.

After that, I woke up. Strange amalgam of so many things. Totes and containers from my living room, cousin’s photo on Facebook the other day, me going out to look at the concrete drainage channel for a stream behind Buffalo Wild Wings where I ate the other day, glimpses of a bag of gnocchi on the shelf in my pantry or the frozen cooked macaroni in my freezer, remembering looking at my Dad’s old Playboy magazines in the basement as a kid, the Hardy Boys, etc. You can just kind of see how dreaming the brain sorting through things that caught our attention and trying to make sense of all the input or file it away.

      IMG_7105.jpg

And this add popped up on Facebook after I went searching for pantyhose to use as filters on my washing machine drain hose.

      IMG_7109.jpg
      Really, Walmart???

      I ordered six pair.

Good morning! It is gorgeous out there!!! Bright sun, 70's, slight breeze which makes gardening such a pleasure because it cools you when you get sweaty. Sorry, meant to say glisten. Horses sweat, men perspire, ladies glisten. 😉 I hope to get a little something done out there today.

Yesterday I did a little housework since it was rainy all day until dinnertime. Still avoiding the quilt on the longarm, lol. Went to hubs hockey banquet which turned out to be so nice. Food was quite good. A couple of glasses of wine always helps. This is a senior hockey league. There was a goalie there who is 85 years old and still playing!! Hubs is one of the youngest players at 69. It was open seating so 5 of us ladies sat together and they were so chatty which made it fun. I sat next to a Master Gardener (do they have those where you live?). We had lots to talk about, lol. 🌳 🌻

Today I'm finishing up my chores for the week. Hubs is mowing the lawn. We're going to a tree nursery later to look for arborvitae. We could save some money by DIY but in reality we're not going to be able to dig the holes and man-handle trees of that size. I don't think he grasps that so he needs to physically stand next to the tree to picture how we're going to manage. The light bulb will go on and he will come around to what I've been trying to tell him, that the landscaper will need to install them. 🙄

We're going to pick up Ava at daycare today and surprise her with a new bike. We got a Radio Flyer trike/balance bike. Next year she'll be ready for the classic Radio Flyer tricycle.

So that's what's happening here. Hope your day is productive.

We have Master Gardeners. In fact, the University of Wisconsin-Madison has an extension/outreach program and people can submit questions on all kinds of topics. The Master Gardeners answer the gardening questions and they usually get back to you in a day or so. It’s a nice service for the taxpayers to be able to access of that knowledge.

Now that you mention it, it is part of the agricultural coop extension which is a national program, so every state has Master Gardeners. She lives in RI so it's the University of Rhode Island and I live in MA so it's UMass Amherst for us. I get a monthly newsletter from them.

Good morning all. Hope everyone is having a good day. We had a tornado warning yesterday afternoon and, as usual, most of us were outside watching for it. That probably sounds really dumb to some of you, but we very seldom get tornadoes in this part of the state. They send out warnings when they consider conditions to be right for the possibility, not just when a tornado is sighted. The storm went through really fast and we hardly even had any wind. Just rain and thunder and lightning for about 15 minutes. The good news is it looks like our weather is finally going to stay warm.

I was hoping to finish varnishing the first trellis box this morning, but ran out of varnish and too lazy to go to the store for more. I think tomorrow I’ll set up in my carport and get it all done on both trellises. It’s 4 hours in between coats.

Still plugging away at the quilt on my longarm.

Mrs. Oriole stopped by this morning. Hubby must be nest sitting.

        Good afternoon,

Waving hello from my sewing chair. I'm gathering my courage to sew borders onto a quilt. I started the pot roast in the crock pot this morning. It smells so good out in the garage. We will enjoy it another day as tonight is chicken pot pie for dinner.

The delivery guy for our water order was early this morning and caught me in my jammies. LOL! Guess we can do that when we are old-ER. He got a nice tip for the pain. We are set now with our hurricane stash that we keep on hand. We don't drink the water from the local county utility.

        Hope your day is great.

        Just one more stitch...

We don't drink our city's water because it is fluoridated. We have our own water distiller or buy distilled water by the gal. for larger cooking projects. I pack my own distilled water whenever I go out to eat.
