On Friday, Charles Henderson High School held a signing day for its seniors that have completed its Lockheed Martin Manufacturing 101 course.

Seniors that complete the course are guaranteed an interview with Lockheed Martin to enter into the company’s training program once they’ve turned 18 years old, which can propel them into a high-paying career. The CHHS seniors that signed their offers from Lockheed Martin are Keyshawn Harris, Raikuan Timmons and Sterling Sharp.

“Not everyone needs to go to college and the workforce needs experienced and quality workers and our manufacturing program does that,” Manufacturing 101 teacher Sonny Kirkpatrick said. “We get students ready to go into the workforce. If you have good quality workers it only helps the area that they are living in. It helps our kids and students become good citizens in the city and reflects well on Charles Henderson to have the opportunity to help the manufacturing industry to have good quality workers.”

The program is in its sixth year at CHHS as a partnership with Lockheed Martin.

“(Lockheed Martin representative) Marvin Barginere has played an instrumental role in the success of our program,” Kirkpatrick said. “Without his friendship, guidance and mentoring, we would not be able to give our students the opportunity they have in front of them as they get ready to graduate. Due to the success of our program, other schools throughout lower Alabama are beginning similar courses.”

Harris has earned his National Ready to Work and Alabama Certified Workers Certificates. Thomas has also earned his MSSC Safety, Quality Processes and Production Processes Certificates. He also earned his National Ready to Work and Alabama Certified Workers Certificates.

Sharp has earned certificates for MSSC Safety, Quality Processes, National Ready to Work and Alabama Certified Worker and Production Processes and Maintenance Awareness. He became just the fifth student from CHHS to be awarded their full Certified Production Technician Certificates and also the first CHHS student to earn an MSSC Green Production Certification.
