Alert: Missing Persons Unit is coming back for season 3, but it’s going to be a wait until it comes.

The procedural has become a good hit for FOX. The first season revolved around Jason Grant (Scott Caan) and Nikki Batista (Dania Ramirez), a pair of Philadelphia police officers whose marriage fell apart when their son Keith was abducted. Years later, Keith seemingly returns as the pair also works together to search for missing people across the city.

Season 1 ended with a bold finale revealing the truth about Keith. Season 2 has softened the show with some new characters and presenting stand-alone episodes while also establishing a long-range plotline of a bus bombing that’s led to a larger conspiracy. The season 2 finale was a wild one that sets up season 3.

Thankfully, there will be another installment coming with FOX confirming a new season of the show is set. However, fans are going to have to wait until next year for it.

Why Alert: Missing Persons Unit is being held back until 2025

FOX’s just released new schedule confirms that Alert: Missing Persons Unit won’t return until midseason in early 2025. It’s likely to have a premiere date in January as FOX likes to use the NFL Playoffs to promote their shows. So the earliest would be January, although FOX might hold it off until February after the Super Bowl.

The network has a full schedule for the fall as it also has to interrupt programming for coverage of MLB playoffs. It does fit as the first two seasons of Alert did well with midseason premieres and the shorter episode runs aid it as well. The show nicely mixes stand-alone searches with a longer-range story arc, and a 10 to 13-episode count is the best way to show that. So it doesn't need a regular 22-episode run with the series excelling with the shorter episode counts.

FOX is remembering that and so holding off a successful show for midseason rather than the crowded fall works out better. It also gives the writers time to craft the right storyline which once more will mix a larger mystery with the weekly episodes.

So fans are in for a wait but Alert: Missing Persons Unit should be able to have a fun run of episodes when it does premiere in 2025.
