Where Lancashire's four universities stand in the latest UK rankings

Lancaster University has slipped out of the top 10 in the latest rankings but maintains its crown as the number one university in both Lancashire and the north west.

According to the latest rankings from The Complete University Guide, Lancaster University is now ranked 11th with an overall score of 84 per cent. It also scored 72 per cent for entry standards, 78 per cent for student satisfaction and 82 per cent for graduate prospects.

Edge Hill University is in 60th place - down three places - with an overall score of 64 per cent. It recorded 74 per cent for student satisfaction ad 76 per cent for graduate prospects.

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is up seven places to 92nd and an overall score of 57 per cent. Student satisfaction ranked high at 77 per cent while graduate prospects are 73 per cent.

The University of Cumbria - with its largest campus located in Lancaster - is ranked 123rd after dropping one place in the latest list. It posted an overall score of 45 per cent and a student satisfaction and graduate prospects score of 72 per cent.

The University of Cambridge was the highest ranked university in the UK with an overall score of 100 per cent. The University of Oxford came second followed by the London School of Economics and Political Science in third.

Elsewhere in the north west, the University of Liverpool was ranked 18th - up six places - while the University of Manchester fell three places to 22nd. Manchester Metropolitan University came 55th - up five places.

The Complete University Guide league table is based on ten measures: entry standards, student satisfaction, research quality, research intensity, academic services spend, spending on student facilities, continuation, student-staff ratio, graduate prospects – outcomes, and graduate prospects – on track. It includes 130 institutions.
