‘Road House’ 2 in The Works at Amazon

Amazon has announced a sequel to its hit movie ‘Road House,’ with Jake Gyllenhaal returning as the lead character, Dalton. The news was unveiled by Amazon MGM Studios chief Jennifer Salke at the company’s first-ever upfront presentation to advertisers in New York City.

Jennifer Salke shared her excitement, saying, “This spring, the world went crazy for a little movie called ‘Road House’. Nearly 80 million viewers globally have watched ‘Road House.’ We watch these results like a baby.”

The original ‘Road House’ film, penned by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry and produced by Joel Silver, features an ensemble cast including Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Joaquim de Almeida, Conor McGregor and Lukas Gage. Premiering on Prime Video on 21st March, it set a new record for Amazon MGM Studios, with over 50 million viewers in its first two weekends, making it the studio’s most-watched film debut ever worldwide.

It’s worth noting that streaming viewership numbers, often self-reported by platforms, come with certain limitations. Amazon did not specify what constitutes a “view” or how much of ‘Road House’ was watched for viewers to be counted. The reported figures also span the first 10 days of availability rather than the traditional opening weekend.
