Junior Concert 2024 - Wellington College

The Junior Concert unfolded as a vibrant celebration of musical prowess featuring the budding talents of pupils from the Third and Fourth forms. The stage was graced with performances by the Third Form Orchestra, Cameratini, the Third Form Jazz Band, and mesmerising solo acts.

The evening commenced with the enchanting rendition of “The Bare Necessities” performed by the Third Form Orchestra. The symphonic journey continued with the emotive strains of the third movement from Mahler’s Symphony No.1,  showcasing the orchestra’s depth and precision.

Cameratini enraptured the audience with their rendition of “Lazy Blues” and “Steppin’ Out” by Merle Isaac, while soloists, including Evie v R on French horn, Sophia S with her soulful voice on “Both Sides Now” by Joni Mitchell, and Natalie Z’s captivating violin performance of František Drdla’s “Mazurka,” left the audience spellbound.

The diversity of talent was further highlighted with Ines R’s masterful guitar performance of Mateo Carcassi’s “Etude No.7” and Fabian R’s euphonium rendition of Wagner’s “Walter’s Prize Song”.

The evening crescendoed with the dynamic energy of the Third Form Jazz Ensemble’s rendition of “Caravan” by Ellington, featuring spirited trumpet solos and rhythmic percussions.

Directed by Ant Bailey, Susie Henwood and Jonathan Heeley, with accompanist David Malusa, the Junior Concert was not just a showcase of musical talent, but a testament to the dedication and passion of young musicians, leaving the audience eagerly anticipating future performances.
