Knights conclude MIAC Outdoor Championships in fourth place

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Carleton College men's track & field team wrapped up the MIAC Outdoor Championships in fourth place out of 11 teams. Indy Lyness registered the Knights' fourth event conference title of the season when he crossed the line first in the 800-meter run.

Indy Lyness won the 800-meter run in a personal-best time of 1:53.56 to rank eighth in program history. After a strategic opening lap, the race started to pick up. He had been running in the middle of the crowded pack, but with 300 meters remaining Lyness broke to the outside. He took the lead with 200 meters to go and ran away from the field. Josh Meier and Ethan Ash added to Carleton's team score as they placed seventh (1:55.91) and eighth (1:57.45), respectively.

Gabe Nichols and Roy Llewellyn placed second and third in the 5,000-meter run, earning the duo All-MIAC status yet again. Nichols established a new personal-best of 14:34.88 (fifth in Carleton history), while Llewellyn crossed the line at 14:46.12.

The Knights' final All-MIAC performance came in the last event, the 4x400-meter relay as Alistair Pattison, Meier, Lyness, and Ash combined on a time of 3:18.74, ranking them eighth in team history. Carleton's quartet finished second to Bethel, which is ranked No. 1 for the event in NCAA Division III this season.

Brett Hanley finished 13th in the 3000-meter steeplechase, posting a season-best time of 9:57.06.

Ethan Cline-Cole placed 12th in the triple jump after measuring a season-best 12.42 meters

Up Next for the Knights
Carleton may take a few individuals to the Augustana Midwest Twilight Qualifier to be held May 15-16 in Rock Island, Ill. That would be the final chance for any Knights to improve their national ranking ahead of selections to the NCAA Outdoor Championships to be held May 23-25 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
