Zachary Taylor

He was a war hero, Cass is vocally pro-slavery, and I didn’t like MVB when he went up against that other Whig general.

I’m sure this one will last much longer!

Van Buren. Would’ve hated him, but being a Free Soiler now, I’m 100% on board with him

Lewis Cass.

Van Buren is a non-factor outside of the North, and Taylor is a military man completely unaffiliated with politics

Cass is a career politician who knows how to manage relations with congress and after the successful administration of Polk there’s no reason to stray away from the Democratic Party

Popular sovereignty isn’t great but the Whig platform regarding slavery doesn’t fix that issue either

I may disagree but it's definitely refreshing to hear someone support lewis cass

I think the fact the whigs kept nominating politically ambiguous war generals showed how weak their party was

Clay in 1844 was their last chance to really be an unified party and even in 1848 I probably would’ve nominated him over Taylor

Cass is a guy who I'm kind of shocked never got into the White House especially with how dominant the Dems were from 1828 to 1860. He's kind of the Democratic equivalent of James G. Blaine in that regard.

Probably could’ve been decent in 1852 but democrats opted for a pretty face with no strong stance on slavery

Edited

Martin Van Buren because it was when he already became an abolitionist iirc and the party was also anti slavery

cass

Zachary Taylor’s campaign song is pretty rad. If you have not heard it before, you definitely aren’t prepared for it.

Taylor.

Cant you do polls?

Nope, at first I wanted to do polls, but I guess r/Presidents doesn’t allow them.

u/gavin2299 avatar

That’s unfortunate. Wonder why they’re not allowed
