Titans Defeat Long Beach State 4-1

Softball collects their 35th win of the season in series opener

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton softball team defeated Long Beach State, 4-1, to kick off the season's final series at Anderson Family Field on Friday night. The Titans improve to 35-16 overall and 21-4 in conference play. They also extended their conference home record to 10-0.

Kika Ramirez started the scoring early with a first-inning solo home run over the center field wall, her second of the year.

Jessi Alcala and Megan Delgadillo began the third inning with singles, setting up Bailey Wallace, who scored Alcala with a base hit. Wallace drove in her 23rd RBI of the season while Alcala crossed home safely for the 18th time, extending Fullerton's lead to 2-0.

Hannah Bacerra (2-for-3, 2 RBI) would join the fun with a single to center field, scoring Delgadillo and Wallace and pushing the lead to 4-0.

Long Beach took a run back in the fifth inning with a single, after Staci Chambers (2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER) entered in relief for Haley Rainey (4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K) but it would remain The Beach's only run of the night as Chambers did not allow a run for the rest of the game, lowering her earned run average to 2.07.

Rainey was awarded her 17th win of the season as Chambers collected her second save of the year.

The Titans and Long Beach will return to Anderson Family Field on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. The Titans are one win away from clinching the 2024 Big West Title and will celebrate the 2024 senior class following the end of the second game.
